Default confusing clutch(?) question

hey everyone - I started noticing this issue showing up last year and started to pay more attention to it this year - i did take it in to my mechanic last year and he said everything was fine - i thought hydraulics may needed replaced - i am not sure how well I am going to explain this - but here goes -

after driving a short while - everything up to temp - maybe 30 min -+ drive - i noticed the clutch pedal felt different - almost no resistance - not all the time - but some of the time - the other thing that came with this is short window of engagement - normally i let the clutch out nice and easy/slow - feel everything engage nicely and accelerate from there - with this issue i have to give noticeably more gas - and the engagement is short and abrupt - if i don't , it stalls out - this does seem to be a first gear issue - at least that's where i notice it most. and again the PITA about it is it's inconsistency - but it is happening enough to notice and be aware of.

this is for a 1985 4+3

I did read somewhere - cannot find it at the moment - that the fluid can become hot from being unprotected with how the lines run - but if that was the case i would think this would be a more common issue.

I do know (and will be soon) it's time for me to change fluid on both units and the trans. filter not sure that has anything to do with this or not.

so I plead to the very helpful C4 guru's - any help with this - any thoughts - would be greatly appreciated

Sean
