I'm working on my 89 6 spd. I just discovered that no fuel is getting to the injectors. I'm going to ask you all something that is STUPID I am very very sorry. There are two lines from the gas tank to the fuel filter and the fuel rail. One of the lines has a diaphragm on it the other does not. Presently the one with the diaphragm is connected to the line that goes to the fuel pressure regulator the other line goes directly into the fuel rail. I looked in the FSM it does not say which line is the supply and which is return. So if you are going to answer. Please answer line with and line without the diaphragm. Again I apologize.
When I connected the lines to the fuel rail. They seemed to go on only one way. The radiator hose that goes to the heater core and the diaphragm on the one fuel line make it virtually impossible to cross the lines.
Thank you to anyone that can help.
Let's backup a bit and take a breath,
Simple before tools, in a quiet place (Turn off Radio in car you don't want the antenna to run)take the gas cap off and put ear near the filler, have someone turn the key to run (don't crank) for a second or two you should hear the pump cycle then turn off.
Does the run Yes-No
Yes go to hood and put a pressure gauge on the test port, in a perfect world you should get +- 35psi and hold (it will bleed down) hopefully slowly.
If No Diagnostic on Electrical system will need to be chased.
First of all thank you for trying to help. I have established the fuel pump runs when I turn on the key. I thought the regulator was first in line. I have been told the regulator is actually on the return line. So fuel s not flowing into the fuel rail. I am buying a fuel filter. Hoping that is all that is wrong. This job has bee a nightmare. Once again thank you

Its unlikely that the fuel filter is restricting enough to keep fuel from getting to the injectors. An easy way to tell is by pressing the schraeder valve in the pressure gauge port (looks like a tire valve). If fuel squirts out you have pressure.
First and foremost thank you for contributing. Second where did you get that picture I paged through the FSM and did not see it. Last night after I was told the FP regulator sends fuel back to the tank via the return line. I opened up all the lines, changed the fuel filter and blew air in the lines so I was able to trace them back to the point of origin. Some how the lines were crossed I guess. Because for a while now if I put a pressure gauge on the Schrader valve and turn the key on and off the FP went to zero immediately. Last night I did the same thing and the FP held for over 15 minutes. So that is all fixed.
I'm guessing that the oil pressure switch is working. But I want to make sure. Do you know what wires I need to jumper to bypass the OPS? Thank you
You don’t want to bypass the OPS, your pump will run non stop, key in our out. It is there to backup relay, in case of relay failure.
The picture is from section 6C Engine Fuel. 1986 manual.
Okay, does the OPS tell the ECM to operate the injectors. I believe my OPS is good. But, I want to make sure a signal is being sent to the injectors. I'm on Guam no parts stores have noids. 2 other questions if you don't mind.
1. With the key on. If I rotate the distributor back and forth b by hand. Will a spark plug fire?
2. I was spinning the engine and notice the timing mark was before the 8 degrees on the tab. Do I rotate the distributor counterclockwise? Thank you
I'm just trying to keeep from endlessly spinning the engine and killing the battery.
The reference signal from ignition module is what tells ECM to fire injectors.
1- There should be enough travel in distributor to trigger a a spark to one plug.
2- Turning distributor clockwise will retard timing.
So today i got the car to start but not run. I have fuel pressure and I moved the distributor cap back and forth over the rotor and got spark. I am wondering if fuel is getting into the cylinders. I am thinking of lifting the fuel rail and turning on the key. If I do that fuel should squirt out the injectors correct? Or do I have crank the engine? Thank you
I have a timing light. No noids and no AZ on Guam.
I can get it to fire up but not run. So I brought the engine to TDC, set the distributor. I pulled the number one plug and rotated by hand the distributor cap. I got spark. I was going to pull an injector connector and connect a volt meter to the connector and spin the engine. I realized that gasoline was POURING out of the TBI. WTF!!! What is going on Chat GTP says it is the regulator. The regulator is 2 years old. The guy that runs the auto hobby shop said the car is cursed, I think he is right. I am next week sending to a mechanic. I did order a new diaphragm. Any suggestions are welcome.
