Good idea Minnesota White, I have not thought of that. I wished the fob would lock and unlock the doors when the auto mode is turned off, too. But I guess GM did not want that function available, for some reason.
PKE on my 1996 quit working. Anyone kno whow to do diagnosis on it? FOB's work fine on another vette.. So it must be in the Dash somewhere...I just dont know how to check it...????
When you hit the unlock button, what you're hearing is the passenger door unlock. The unlock button on the fob will not unlock the driver's door (go figure).
When people first talk to me about the car i will always tell them its got a cool feature, that the car knows when i'm buy it and automattically unlocks and no one can ever figure out how. I never tell them either.
I guess I'll be the first to say that I never use my PKE keyfob, and I don't like the system. The fob has been collecting dust since I bought the car 2 1/2 years ago.
I prefer to lock and unlock my doors myself. I just don't find it to be a convenience feature. Same thing goes for the automatic stereo volume...I'll adjust that myself as well, thank you. :nono:
If you don't use the keyfob, does it still arm the factory alarm system? When the keyfob is active and I walk away from my car, I can hear the doors lock and the horn beeps letting me know the alarm system activated. Yes, the keyfob is nice, but mine is starting to go and I don't think it's the battery because I just replaced it.
bluestreak, yes it's possible to arm the alarm without PKE.
Open the door (SECURITY light flashes)
Lock doors using power door lock switch (SECURITY light becomes solid)(Note: you have to use the power door lock switch...using the door lock slider or outside door lock key won't arm the alarm)
Close door
The alarm is now armed. You can verify this by doing it with the windows down, then reaching over and hitting the door lock switch. The horn should start blaring.
Likewise, the alarm is disarmed by using the PKE remote, OR inserting the door key into either door and turning the lock.
