That reminds me of being younger and working at my dad's print shop, mom would only park her '74 (original owner) in front of the window of my office, this way I could keep an eye on it for her. The one day I get my fingers caught in a freight elevator door and get rushed to the hospital with 6 broken fingers (3 on each hand) someone took a spring loaded center punch and took out both side windows - trying to steal the T-tops. Lucky for mom they were bolted in. The thief got nothing, and mom's insurance replaced the windows. I would have liked to have caught that S.O.B. as I'm sure it wasn't a 5th grader and I certainly believe in swift, severe, street-justice!
Mess with me or my vette and you better be able to run faster than a 9MM, as far as the broken fingers - yes one of them was my trigger finger, but it's been 32 years. OK so talk is cheap and no, I wouldn't shoot someone over my car (probably wouldn't) But, in Florida it is lawful to shoot to kill if you're being carjacked.
As far as the 5th grader was concerned - you make a great teacher, I would not have been as nice. I'm very vindictive! Thanks for being a great teacher - I hope that kid learned a lesson!
I think you did the right thing with the kids. I'm sure most of us did some petty things as kids, and if we got caught, it taught us enough of a lesson to not do it again. :nono:
Back in my 11 & 12 year old days, plastic colored custom Gear Shift ***** were big and were commonly stolen. And who can forget hubcaps. Another big item were those 1959 Cadillac "bullitt" taillights. They looked real cool on Chevy Impalas.
Same thing with me. Everytime the kid leaned down to take off cap I hit the alarm button. He got the message he was being watched and took off.
While for the most part I tend to agree, when WE were stupid kids most of us learned our lessons. But look at the way things are today........most don't.......I would have called the cops and got the parents involved.........we need to nutter these kids quickly or else they'll become a menace.
Now a days a slap on the wrist and they laugh, slap on butt and laugh harder.......I say bring back the choice....belt, wrench, or fist. JMHO.
Well at 11yrs of age he is old enough to know to not damage other peoples property and to not steal. Yea we all did dumb stuff at that age but theft or vandalism were not on the agenda.
Good job; hopefully that was enough to prevent a recurrence.
I know quite a few cops, I'm a CJ major, and I'm almost sure any cop would have laughed at me. I mean come on guys... If he was breaking windows, keying the doors, or whatever, then it gets serious. I work a before/after school program at the school, the kid isn't in the program, so I can't leave my kids to take the kid home, and I'm not going to detain him and wait for his parents. It was more funny than anything...
