Wow, lots of people don't like the wood, huh? I was looking at buying an '84 that was bronze/bronze. It had an oak dash that looked very classy and unique. It really caught my eye. For me, it would depend on the color scheme whether it looked good or not rather than saying it just doesn't belong in a vette.
I had one in my first 89 and loved it. in fact it was one of the reason I bought the car. It looked so cool. When I got my second 89 it had one too, but it was ugly as sin. Kind of weird. I put CF in the new 89, and that looks great.
Its your car, so you should put in what makes you feel good. Just shop around and see what you like. Dont be afraid to return a kit if you dont like it. From what I have noticed, the thin wood veneer ones tend to take the temp changes in the car much better than the more substancial wood units.
Personally I don't care fo rWood kits, but I just ordered a real brushed aluminum kit fo rmy vetter.. We'll see if I keep it or throw it out the window. Should look nice, but dunno.. Can't be worse than the old plastic that's in the car now.. (ALthough it is still near perfect after 18years) :D
You have got to post pics when you get it in. I've been tossing back & forth between the aluminum or wood.... :seeya
I must admit that the kit looks nice on the "00" barkingowl, but whats with the seats, a good looking dash, deserves to be up with some real leather, not some slipcover. Deep six the tights brother, let the leather breath!
Or could I be mistaken? and is that a 2 tone leather, if so, my bad.
I didn't like em either until I saw it in my car with the solid black int and darker rosewood. I still don't care for most of the wood kits that I see especially when worn, but I like mine. To each their own I guess...
Put a set in in '87 cause it was the "in" thing at the time. Took it out around '95. It was starting to dry out and crack. I put it back the old way which I now like. I also removed the "breadbox" when the wood went in. Now it's back to stock with the "breadbox". But I think a techno look like carbon fiber or maybe stainless. But only a maybe on stainless, it might be a bit much. I always thought that a very nice thin leather attached to the plastic would give it a classy look. Something like the leather on some of the exotic imports.
My dash came like this when I bought it. If I was going to put a new wood
dash I would go for something lighter with more contrast and real wood
not the 'no-mar' stuff.
