Window Tint
searching their site has done me no good....
but a yahoo search revealed this link:
http://www.pcisys.net/~bpc/auto_law/tint/
according to this, Texas allows:
Before 1988 Model Year:
AS-1 / 35% Film / 20% Film / 20% Film / 1988
1988 Model Year and after :
AS-1 / 35% Film / 35% Film / 20% Film / 1988
Enforcement Note : Illegal window tint can be the reason for failing state safety inspection. State DPS carry light meters especially around the Mexican Border.
============
this explains the data above...
4 inches / 35 % Film / 15 % Net / 5 % Net / 1994
A tint brow on the windshield cannot go no lower than 4 inches, 35% film may be applied to the front side windows, 15% light must go through the combined window film and windows for the rear side windows and 5 % light transmission is required on the rear back window and film combined. The year 1994 is the year that the law went into effect.
It's not legal to tint the side windows at ALL here in CA, but most people tint them down to 35%, which is just BARELY noticeable. :)
Sorry but it is very noticable. How can you go from no tint (100% transmitted) to 35% transmitted and say you hardly notice it ??
even if its only like 90% I have seen quite a few cars with 35% and Yes it IS darker but its not enough to make anybody suspicious. you can still see the person inside and thats all teh cops care about

NET law combines the shade of the factory glass and the tint together.
for instance if the naked glass on your doors read 80%(about) and you install 30% film you effectively get a NET combined reading of 80 x 30 = 24%
you can put anywhere from 35 to 30 on your doors, basicly the same as it was but they have found a way to TIGHTEN the law a bit.
on must cars you could put 30% an it would be legal because with the combined clear glass it drops the reading to around 25% .
here is the OFFICIAL law chart from the IWFA.
