I was on my way home from work when I had a tie rod break causing me to smash into the cement divider at 65 MPH. I think the car is totaled because although the damage was held to the front of the car I noticed the driver’s side rear sitting way low and I think the frame must be twisted. I can't tell you how sick this makes me feel, I spent two years restoring this car and just completed the installation of my LT1 not two months ago. I spoke with the insurance and they only want to give me $5500 :mad if it is totaled. If that is the case then I am going to see if we can come to an agreement so I can keep the car because I have more then that in parts that I could sell. The interior is perfect and the Motor is a built LT1 and the rear has 3.73 gears. BTW if anyone has a rolling chassis they are looking to sell drop me an e-mail, hell if some one has a good frame and front end, that’s all I really need. I will post pics tomorrow when I can get the courage up to look at it again.

Holy Sheet......Glad you are okay and will be able to drive another Corvette. Fight with your insurance company. Show all the receipts and get the value increased somehow. They always opt for the cheap way out. Fight them, do not give in too easy. I don't know how much time you have, but don't give up.
nooooo!!!!! that totaly bites.
tie rod broke? crazy.you hit a pothole or something or did the steering just go away?
its very rare to loose a tie rod at 65 on pavement but maybe these big meets on the front tend to do that.
tell us more please. what did it do?
(sorry if that sounds rude but im really curious as to how it handled)
on the plus side there seems to be quite a few fixer uppers on the market right now.check out the for sale site at the splash page here.think theres 2 in the 5-6k range, hopefully in your area.
glad your ok.
oh,and insurance,if you have a good policy in place,it is their obligation to make you whole.
if you cant replace your car for what they are offering then dont sign.
they ALWAYS come out smoking with some stupid low figure, dont sweat that.
good luck bud
update:my moneys on the left front upper control arms broke is why its sittng askew.cheap part. :)
Sorry about your vette, but gald to hear you're OK. 65Mph, count your blessigns you were driving a vette. Many cars at that speed would not have protected you so you could walk away.
I am glad that you "bodily" are ok. Emotionally, well that's a different story. Sorry about the loss. As for insurance, it is my knowledge from someone in the biz that may help here. I have been told that in the event of a total loss, you may recoup all monies spent on mods/restorations if you can provide receipts. Regular maintenance does not imply however. There is a catch...submit any and all receipts AFTER getting their total loss figure. They will have to re-figure with your receipts. I was told it is dollar for dollar on these receipts. Oh yeah....you do have receipts right?
Glad you came out ok. But I for one thought a little. Instead of spending my time making my car look nice, I'm going to crawl under it and check a few things out. My 86 is older than a few people on this Forum. Age is the enemy of our cars parts. Join me and check your cars out.
HAVE A GREAT DAY!!!

So sorry, hate to hear stuff like this. I know "it's only a car" but for alot of us it's represents so much more. I'm glad your ok and I hope you get back into a Vette ASAP. :nonod:

Glad your OK :blueangel:
I have often thought about what would happen if I broke a piece of steering linkage at high speed.
I think I'll take a good close look at everything for piece of mind.
