Someone may correct me but there has been collector's edition, 35th, 40th and GS in the C4 I dont think there was ever a limited much less with gold on it-May be an aftermarket emblem

In 96, regular production cars had the black emblems, CEs had chrome/silver with "Collectors Edition" in the Bowtie, and GSs had chrome/silver w/o CE, i.e. a standard RP badge in silver. Never seen gold, though on a C4, but I have seen it on a lot of other vehicles. I would imagine it's a real easy thing to do in the aftermarket world.

It's an aftermarket, or it's the original that has had one of the electroplating jobs done to it. Some of those places could gold plate the emblem without removing it.
