Re: quick release top poll (ductape)
Hey, I'm up top here on the list of "count me ins". Just wanted to know if this would work. Can you take all you info, pics, drawings, description, etc and mail it to yourself registered mail from the Post Office. Don't open it, and you have proof of the design/manufacture date (postmark) while processing. I do know it works with copyrights on songs, books etc here. Just an idea to protect yourself now, and let you share a little more info. :)
:iagree: At least that's what I was taught in my patent law class.
What kind of warranty are you going to put behind this product? I dont think anyone wants to be stuck with a $100-$150 paper weight if it breaks in a year or 2.
What kind of finish will you be offering: Polished, powder coated, plastic, rubber coated?
Will each targa types require a seperate kit or is it universal? Those with multiple C4s would more likely buy it if they can use it on all their cars.
When do you expect you HAVE to commit to the patent in order to have units available for delivery BEFORE spring/summer?
Would you be willing to accept some "beta" testers to provide real user feedback so others will have more use case impressions to decide from if the testers agree to a NDA (Non Disclosure Agreement) and Non Compete Agreement?

Re: quick release top poll (atotalnincompoop)
Why bother with a patent? Build a bunch and sell 'em to the catalog houses. Fast in, fast out. I designed and built a part for competition rifles. Not a big market for selling them to individuals. But the catalog houses bought 60% of the inventory and are carrying the advertising overhead. It only took two years before the overseas "knock-offs" started showing up.
Maybe you already have done the homework, just my .02 cents....
A quick release would be great, using stock hardware is a PIA! I take the top off twice a year only to switch to painted top in the summer and back again in the fall.
If the idea is as good in reality as in theory, I would definitely be interested! Of course I would like it to be less expensive, but I also honestly don't think that what you would be asking is outrageous. Keep me posted. Thanks.
Why wait for the patent? Technically speaking you already "own" the patent. You just haven't registered it. But as long as you have proof of t hinking and making it before anyone else, you are good.
He can't post a pic or be specific because someone would steal the idea and patent it first. It's not who has the idea, it's who gets the patent first.

Re: quick release top poll (CentralCoaster)
Send yourself a registered mail with the design plans... and don't open it. Problem solved!
No offense, but this isn't a revolutionary new microprocessor or something. There's no need to go overkill about guarding the idea. If you have the registered mail to yourself, you have proof.
Spend your start up costs to start producing them and selling them. Use your profits to pay for the patent. :yesnod:
