A full face helmet is still going to smash your jaw if you are moving hard enough to make contact with the steering wheel. They're more for preventing road rash when a biker goes down.
While many Solo II and bracket racers still prefer open face helmets, we do not recommend open face helmets for any speed contest due to the lack of protection from flying debris, fire or neck extension in a forward collision.
Bob Booth of Bell Motorsports is a pretty well respected guy in road race circles. I spoke to him personally when I selected my helmet. I was surprised to learn that the front edge of a full-face helmet will hit the sternum(!) and stop the neck from overextending  But of course a neck collar recommended as well.
So what is the advantage of a full face helmet? Other than it being hotter and blocking your vision more.
What's the advantage??? Ask Dale Earnhardt. Oh wait - you can't.
Thats cold!
Yes it is... I didn't like him very much as a driver, but I respected him a lot, and it's just a damn shame that he's gone. Note: The day of his crash, nearly half the field was wearing open face helmets... The next week, there were hardly any. Today, there are none.
I have a black BELL helmet I can sell, perfect condition, $100. I also have a KENWOOD 2-way radio WITH headset that I used on the cruise-in that I attended... $125
