Tint is a plus....I like my windows dark. I guess it all depends on how dark you want the windows. I need to re-tint my windows soon. I might go with 20% all around... :seeya
Needs to be redone. Hatch tint has turned purple. Crappy tint.
In order to remove that crappy tint EASILY, try this. On a nice warm day, soak the back window with windex....then drape garbage bags on the back window and let it sit in the sun(this works better if you can pull the rear window off thecar on the hinge) within a short time, the tint and glue should come off simply while leaving the heating elements(de-fogger lines) intact. My tint was pulled this way. I had metallic film on the glass(it did NOT look good with the blue) and I had it removed in favor or limo film.
Just thought I'd share that. I've seen that method mentioned here before...but I don't know from where.
I know in Michigan my vette cost was $200....About to pick up my wife's Imapla SS tomorrow and my father-in-law, who lives in Florida, said that it's half as much down there than up here....Getting it done when we're there in April!!!! So it all depends on where you live...but I would not try and do the back hatch yourself!
My 87 had tinted hatch and side glass when I bought it. The guy said he got the tint at the WA legal limit so it isn't extremely dark. The car is primarily for track and autocross use, so I didn't really care about it one way or another. The tint on the driver's door glass is getting scratched up but I won't get it replaced.
I thought about removing it but it looks like teh back window would be a PITA to do. Guess it saves on fading of the interior so if I lived in a climate with lots of sun, it would be a desired thing. No worries about excess sun in WA state, just have to make sure I have good windshield wipers
Got windows so dark the state trooper that wrote me the ticket said they were only letting like 5% of the light through :reddevil Cost me $100.Not gonna change it though. :D
Anybody ever tinted their own windows; do you have to remove the hatch glass to work on it? It just seems like it would be easier out of the car and upside down.
Thats what I got!! FYI: I like the tint so well, im getting my jeep done 20% all around (over the factory tint), so it will be the equivalent of 5% on the rear 5 windows and 20% on the sides.
A little information for all you Michiganders...you can only have 30% tint on the side windows. I was harassed by a state trooper when driving my friends car & told that was the limit. you might want to check with someone to be sure. :auto:
Bought my vette in Arizona (second owner). First owner put limo tint on the rear and nearly as dark on the side windows; it was a necessity in the desert!
I don't know what the % is, but it is dark. Looks great on the red body/red interior. Now that I'm in MD my friends warn me that they are illegal, but I've never had any problems with the police. Over the years I've managed to collect a scratch and a scrape here and there, but I probably won't change it in the forseable future.
