Thank you for your support! :) I don't think there is anything we can do about the dealer, since we were stupid and signed an AS IS paper. From what I understand, most dealers will give you 30 days and 1000 miles, but this is a used car dealer and I guess they don't do that. I'll going to call and bug them again tomorrow...well, actually today now. Wish me luck!

My last Vette, a 96 LT1 was an automatic... When I bought it I didn't have a daily driver commuting in L.A. traffic sux big time...

Later I bought a daily driver, retired the Vette to weekend only duties, and began a two year search for a reasonably priced good condition LT4 Vette...

As long as I can have two or more cars, there will always be a Vette with a standard transmission in my garage...

While my Vette is not my daily driver it is a manual. Can't aurgue with that level of control. My dialy driver truck is a stick as well. Better gas mileage, easier to drive in the snow, better control here too.

Well I voted for manual though I own an A4.

I got this setup in a targa because I knew I would be doing a lot of bracket racing with it but my next Vette will be a 6-speed roadster.

thekamps95, you might get on line to your local authorities before time runs out to check on the details of that Lemon Law. Perhaps the AS IS doc is worthless to side step the law. Check into it; could be worth your while.

I am a complete "shift it yourself" type, but due to my wife's disability I'm glad I have an A4. Something I noticed while canyon bombing in NorCal (when I lived in Saratoga): set the auto in "2" and enjoy the ride! The massive, flat torque curve is amazing. Learn how to brake with the left foot and accelerate with the right and an A4 can be a total blast on any twisty section of road.

Something else I noticed; when at speed on the twisties, the steering and suspension become "alive." It seems like the car loses about 1000 lbs and actually becomes "tossable." Trailing throttle oversteer, power-on oversteer, all easy to invoke and control. I find myself steering with the throttle nearly as much as I do the steering wheel. Clipping apexes is easy and trail braking is uneventful. The limits of adhesion are so high though that driving at 7/10ths and above on public roads is downright dangerous.

I can't wait to throw a set of QA1s (in a few weeks) and try dialing in the settings! :steering:

That "As Is" paper isn't worth the paper its printed on in TN. Dont know about your state though. From what I have seen its basically just to keep people from complaining about cars after they purchase them. If the dealer knew about the noise and still assured you it was in good mechanical condition he can be held responsible.

I wouldn't give up so easily. Here in MA, dealers have to give you a warranty and they are assumed to be cheating sleaze bags in court. You could fix it and sue them in small claims, but I would get a lawyer to write them a letter. There is usually a consumer protection statute that can zap them pretty bad, but you have to send the letter to give them an opportunity to fix it first.

We thought we were getting a great deal...the car is beautiful, but just had this noise. The dealer assured us that he had driven it home and back a few times and that it ran fine.
Anytime a car is a 'great deal', you've got to be suspicious, especially if there's any unexplained noises... Good luck.

As for the poll, I have the 4+3... a little bit of manual, and a little bit of automatic! Gotta love those power-on automatic downshifts. :reddevil :steering:

I looked into the Lemon Law in Illinois, and here is what it says..

1. New vehicles only
2. Four attempts to fix the problem or 30 days out of service in 12 months.

So, I don't qualify since our car is a '92 and this is our first attempt to fix the problem.

I haven't had time to contact the dealer again, but definately will call again tomorrow. If I don't get anywhere, I may have an attorney friend type something up for us. Could shake things up. We aren't asking for the whole thing just half, but they won't even call us back to negotiate. Thanks for your support. This website amazes me! Corvette owners are great!! :hurray:

Manual all the way. We also have a C3 with an automatic. The car is great but I just had to have a 6 speed! Found my 1990 here on the forum and couldn't be more satisfied with the purchase! This forum is incredible! Thanks to Bradvette!

If you don't want your wife, girlfriend, etc. to drive it, get the stick. If you want them to enjoy the vette, go with the auto. Its all about cars and girls, right?

Whoa now!! I'm a chick, and I prefer to drive a manual. My husband wanted the automatic, but I talked him into the stick. Of the 16 vehicles that I have had so far, 12 have been stick shift. My feeling is...it's not a sports car unless it's a stick. (No offense to those who have automatics...just my preference.)

Hey Tony! Nice to hear from a former Central Illinoisian. What kind of vette are you driving? We don't see that many around here. As you probably know...Pekin is Mustang town.
