Big Butt vs C4
We always say how much we prefer our C4's over the C5's but I have to admit, that Z06 had a s*#t load of more power and handled better than my 95 LT1. I love my C4 but now I realize that a Z06 will definitely be sitting in my driveway sometime in the future. I doubt it will be the one I drove yesterday though since the dealer was asking 42,800 for it.
On the other hand anyone that says the C5 doesn't compare hasn't driven a Z06. The unique thing is that the more you drive one, the more you appreciate it.
I imagine the same can be said about all the bad mouthing of the C6.
By that same token there is probably nothing quite like the look on a C4 owner's face when a Z06 beats EVERYBODY by 6 seconds on an autocross course.
It's all a matter of personal preference really. Personally I never liked the look of the C5 that much and I really don't care for the FRC. That makes the Z06 just out of the question in my book, I don't care how it performs. I have to be able to look at the car I'm driving. The same reason I will never own a Porsche. It's a warmed over VW bug, period.
My C4 handles good enough for me. I don't really every push it's limits, what I'm looking for is brute acceleration. Whatever floats your boat.

absolute 10 tenths limit all the time. I am a big fan of apex cutting,
and in either car I dont think I can reach (and stay) at the
limit consistently. The difference in that limit is something that
very few can notice. :steering:
I don't get this, either.. I love C3's lines, C5's appearance while they are driving down the road, and the C4's style/interior and overall look. I was about 5 hours from owning a C5 before I bought my '95.. It just DID IT for me
Most of us buy Vettes because of... their heritage, raw power, and handling performance to name a few. Now that I've actually driven a Z06, I have to reconsider my initial thoughts of the C5 generation as a whole. I would have to admit that if I were to actually purchase a C5 then it would most definitely be a Z06. The straight line acceleration and performance from the stock engine deserves respect. However, just as equally impressive is it's cornering / performance capabilities. I love straight line performance as in drag racing and have been planning out the mods for my C4 prior to my entry into that arena. At the same time though, I love driving mountain roads with lots of tight turns especially in a car that eats them for lunch.
The Z06 is such a car.... awesome straight line performance "stock" and excellent handling capabilities. Will I sell my C4 to get one... not on your life. However, now that I've driven a C5 Z06, I'm not so inclined to "dismiss" the C5 gen. as a viable option regardless of how much I prefer the C4 styling and cockpit feel.
I can't speak of the C4 LT4 or ZR1 or any other C5 other than the Z06 but I can say this much.... the C5 Z06's should not be dismissed lightly. They are an awesome car, big butt included.

And it doesn't take a ton of $$ to make your C4 run down the 1/4 mile with a bone stock C5, simple bolt-ons will get the job done. My time slips over the past three seasons have shown that. It's just that it's getting harder to line up against a bone stock C5 any more.
However, there are some fine looking C5s and C4 along with earlier years at the local track on a regular basis and, though most are quicker than my C4, I can admire them all.
