Hi guys, long time no post. I have a 90 Vert, and when I got in her this morning, the passenger side window wouldn't work. I checked the fuses and everythings fine. Any suggestions? I wanted to ask on here before I took the door panel off. Thanks guys.
I've heard that the ground can sometimes work loose. It's attached to one of the screws that hold the arm rest on, I think. Mine did the same thing about 2 months ago and just before I tore into it I checked all the screws. I started working although they didn't feel loose and hasn't failed since. It might have been luck, it's hard to say.
Several times over the years I have had the same problem with my C4s. In every case, it was the switch itself. Moisture and debris can gunk up the contacts, as these switches are pretty much open to contamination. With my older Vettes, I just replaced the switch, which was cheap. But on my 93, the swith is "dual" and costs well over $100! Of course, it crapped out on the driver's side. I removed it, drowned it in electrical contact cleaner and it has worked fine ever since for over a year.
So there is a ground near or on the armrest screws? I will definately check that out. Neither switch will work, and there is no noise, so either something came loose, or the motor just gave out. I know I have a little bit of a leak in the corner of the windshield from my soft top. Maybe the passenger switch is screwed. Can I unhook the switch completely to isolate the problem? Thanks.
If neither switch works I doubt it would be the switch. I've looked through the Service Manual and can't seem to find the ground I mentioned. Could just be an "urban legend", sorry. You could take the switch connectors off and see if you are getting any voltage at all.
I would start by testing circuit breaker, if OK I would test switch.
If switch is good then I would pull the panel and test the wiring and motor.
On 90 it's the third circuit breaker down on the right of fuse panel. It's a 30 amp circuit breaker. But I think it's for both windows, so if only one window is out I would go straight to switch, then motor.
If you replace the motor ( new $50-60) make sure you replace all the rivets in the door with nuts and bolts for easy access the next time you need to get in there! I have replaced both window motors!
