Default Targa Leaking Problems

I have a 93 Vette, I have not taken the targa top off of the car yet and i have had the car for about 6 months. It looks like the previous owner didn't take the top off either. If i take the targa top off does anyone know if it might leak after i take it off. Has anybody had any experiences with the targa leaking.

I'v had my car for 5 years ,and removed the top many times .It has never leaked, and as far as I can tell it's the original seal.I just start all the bolts tighten the back bolts first then the front.I love driving with the top off in the winter .Too dam hot in the summer.

The C-3s leaked badly. I haven`t heard of any problems with the C4s. I just put silicone on all my weather stripping once a month. It keeps it nice & soft.

Unless the weatherstriping is totally deteriorated you'll be just fine. You'll understand why when you remove it to see how its built.

Couple of tips, when you take it off and put it on make sure its on a flat surface, doors open and windows down, and hatch open. Loosen them all first then remove the rear two (they come out) and then the front two (they stay in). Reverse when putting it in, rear two first then the front two, (I usually start them all then tighten the rear then front). This ensure the top seats correctly and doesn't squeek.

The top is stowed in the hatch rear end first. There is a catch at the latch area to secure it. (Make sure the rubber in the holders is intact you don't want to damage the acrylic putting it in the holders. Sometime the rubber slips off the metal mounts.

Expect a totally different Vette. You'll feel longitudinal twisting of the body which is very weird at first. But you soon realize you get two types of handling with and without the top.

Have fun take it out!!!

Oh Kenv I think means silicone grease. This keeps the rubber soft and supple. AKA, Dielectric Grease same thing you put on the plug wire boots. Rub it in and buff it off.

My weather stripping is kind of bad (not terrible), I take the top off quite often, and mine has never leaked...but then again, I also avoid the rain. Whenever I wash it, though, i get more leaks around the hatch than i get around the top...
