New Sumitomos Are On!!!!
Tore up my old tires last week. Ordered the Sumitomo HRTZ IIs from tire rack on Monday. Found them on my porch when I got home from work on Tuesday. Took em to NTB, got em mounted and balanced on Wednesday. Had to take my baby home and wash her. She had hand prints all over her.
Here are the new skins. I really like them. They have a very aggressive tread pattern. They ride great and they are nice and quiet. I went with 274 40 x 17s on all 4 corners.
I live in the great Pacific NW and we do have a few rains. My Sumis now have about 5K miles on them and they really handle great on wet winding 2 lane highways...sometimes on the Interstates at significantly higher speeds. I am very pleased with them and even if we don't get 50K miles on a set I am confident their price/performance, based on what other users state, will be excellent. Hope you are as pleased as we are. Bill
I am finishing a set of sumis after 20,000 mi. They ran great the first 15,000-17000, but dry rot started to set in and they started handling less well. But I have never got over 20,000 mi
out of a set on this vette. Of course, they have all been the less expensive variety.

They do have a really great look to them. Curious, are they traction rated A or AA? Glad you're happy with them!

I had planned on getting Kuhmos and posted a thread here. My wife had Perilli tires on her turbo Volvo that gave us a lot of trouble, flats, blow outs, etc. We replaced them with Sumitomo HRTZs and have had no problem since. That made me think about The Sumitomos when I had to replace my vette tires.
In summary, they are slightly higher in price from tirerack.com than the Kuhmo 712s, a lot less in price than the Kuhmo MXs. They are rated higher than both. Just slightly higher than the MXs.
I have not owned them long enough to give an honest recomendation. So far, I am loving them. Im not sure about the A or AA traction rating, but check out the rating on this link.

They're AA, just like the MX, slightly lower speed rating but that's pretty much irrelevant in the real world. Same 220 wear number too. Looks like another good performance choice for us low-buck guys!
Cant find any info online about A or AA rating. Just that they are Ultra high performance and Z rated. Actually ordering some Htr Z b/c i am putting 315/35/R17 on the back and the Htr Z II doesnt come in that size but I like the pattern of the II better. They look cool on your car. By the way, I got the pics you sent a couple of weeks ago. I went with chrome zr1 rims with 17x 11 in the back with 56mm offset to put the 315's on. Will get some pics when i get them on. later.
.................I think it may have to do something with proof that the tires are new, zero miles.Once you put some miles on the tire the rings disappear. My theory.
