Default 1988 Throttle Position Sensor Adjustment

Greetings All,

I Had Read A Thread About An Adjustment That Can Be Made To A Throttle Positioning Sensor That Would Give A Better Throttle Response.

The Individual Indicated That It Was A Voltage Adjustment Of Sorts And Can Be Done Using "needles" Absent A "harness" Of Some Sort. Anyone Heard Of This?....how Is It Done?....thanks!

There is a tech tip here that shows you how to adjust your idle speed and TPS Tech Tip
I have heard that if you use .68v instead of the factory recommended .54v it will improve your throttle response. However, I don't know if it will have a detremental effect in other areas.

Hope this helps,

Mike.

Straighten out two paper clips. Using the the top wires from the sensor, slide the paper clip along the top of the wire into the connector. Once you have slipped one into each connector terminal turn your ign on and place your dmv leads onto the paper clips. If you have inserted them far enough you will get a dc volt reading. Loosen the 2 torx screws on the tps and move the switch till you achieve the target numbers. Retighten and check readings. Done

That mod can be done on '85-'89 L98s; thereafter it won't work as the ECM detects base idle and WOT positions.

The setup needs to be done at base idle of 450 rpm, my method is on my site.

I used sewing pins, and these cool little "grabbers" that slip on the ohm meter leads. Got 'em at Radio Shack.

What is that thing that sits in front of the TPS ? Saw a Tech Tip for the TPS on an F-Body site, and they don't have that.
