hello everyone
I have a problem with my drivers side power window.
I can here the motor going up to the stop and down to the stop but the window dose'nt move ......I can put the window up and down by grabing it and manually moveing it but it seems like something has come loose or broke.I have the service manual and i guess i have to remove the window regulator assembly.Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if so what am i up against? Thanks in advance for the help
Well thats what i thought after doing some reading on this. But i looked at the service manual, and it looks like it has a gear and track.did they stop using the ribbon in 88'?
I had the same problem. Heres how it works.....the gear and the track are connected by just a male "tit" and female valley that it fits in...no puns here anyways...for some reason once that male part seperates from the female part, it will not stay in. There are a couple things you can do
1) replace the whole thing
2) Weld the two pieces together.
3) this is what I did. Match the pieces together and drill a couple holes through both pieces and put rivets through it. It has to be atleast
two(2) rivets because one will not hold.
Hey thanks
I guess i'll have to make this a winter project. It's hard for me to picture what you are talking about so i'll have to take it apart. Is this a common thing and how long will it last if i make the repair?
If the motor isn't running the problem is in the switch; if it is running the regulator sissor is likely broken from the drive gear.
You can get a new regulator from Contemporary Corvette, link on my site.
To extract/insert the regulator you will need to remove the door panel and the rear Al panel. Once the window has been disconnected and proped up you can manauver the regulator out of the rear opening (well there two bolts in the door bottom that hold the regulator in position).
I have a used driver's side regulator, needs one roller. You might be able to remove one off of yours and put on this one. Otherwise works fine. Email me for a pic.

I think it is a pretty common thing.....but better than tyhe "ribbon" system they used to use. My repaires have lasted approx two years.....however, if you have the money and the time/patience I would suggest you replace it like 65Z01 suggested. My way is just a "makeshift" way to get by.....and it works.

The regulator I have is a used one, works fine, and is the later style. It needs one roller that looks like it snaps onto a ball stud of the regulator arm. If you buy a new one, let me know. I could use the roller. Thanks,

The ribbon gear was only on the 84-86. I recently replaced my broken ribbon regulator with an 87 regulator (gear and scissor drive). It took less than than 2 hours and I got a used regulator from one of the members of the forum. It works fabulous. There is also a bolt at the top of the regulator that must be removed.
