Bought an auxiliary fan, for my 86, without the wiring, just the fan. Was hoping to get some help from you people on the mounting and what I would need to hook it up. I see them in the Mid America catalog for $189.99 complete, gave 20 bucks for what I have. If anyone has a set of instructions or has mounted one, like to hear from you.
HAVE A GREAT DAY!!!!!!!!!
You'll probably need a relay, a couple of sources of power, one for the fan and one to operate the relay. I believe that the fan is normally controlled by the auxillary cooling fan switch that closes above 230 something degrees. You could wire a manual switch to the wire that would normally go to the aux switch, this way you could turn it on manually. The battery side of the fan circuit should be wired to a fusible link or suitable fuse. The switch side of the relay doesn't need a big fuse maybe 3-5 amps and could be constant or switched power. Constant power would let you turn it on even with the key off. A four terminal relay should work. A=fan, B=switch, C=3-5 amp fuse circuit, and D=fusible link or adequate fuse to 12V battery. I probably have a relay and some wiring you could connect the fan to. I wouldn't be surprised if the area in front of the radiator already has the holes to mount the fan. Don't know, never had a auxillary fan and haven't looked for the holes. Thought about putting one in, I have one in my stash.
Someone's got to have a set of instructions for this Auxilliary Fan. Need some help people.

There may be some instructions for it if you bought it from a vendor. It'll probably be something like this. Installing the fan is pretty straight forward it goes in front of the car above the spoiler. The holes are probably there so screw it in. The wiring for the fan goes through the upper shroud which probably has a rubber plug in it. Remove the plug and maybe your fan wiring has a grommet still attached. If so use it or buy one to fit or tape the $%*& out of it. You can install the relay anywhere you want, there may be holes already behind the cruise control cannister on the firewall near the battery. If the fan wiring has 2 wires, attach one wire to ground (probably black) on the frame just where it enters the engine compartment, take the other wire (probably blk/red) to the relay and splice it to the A terminal of the relay. Wire the D terminal from the relay to a 20 amp (guessing) fuse to the battery with a ring terminal (leave the fuse out for now). Wire the C terminal of your new relay and wire it to the C terminal wire (blue?) of your main cooling fan relay (which might be the one mounted on the inner fender between the master cylinder and the battery). Wire the B terminal to a switch inside the car and ground the other side of the switch. Now you can turn the fan on manually when the ignition switch is on. Also if you run another wire from the B terminal of the relay to the overtemp switch (which may be on passenger side of the engine, next to the dipstick, depending on the year) then the fan will operate automatically if the temp gets up to 238 degrees too. I believe that if the car doesn't have an auxillary fan, the overtemp switch is wired both to the main fan relay and the ECM. So if you removed the wire (green/white?) from the sensor tape it up good and tie it back so it doesn't ground out, otherwise your main fan might be running when it doesn't need to if the wire becomes grounded. In dual fan cars, the overtemp switch is only wired to the auxillary fan. I guess you could tap into (green/white?) wire, then if you use the manual interior switch, both fans will go on. Maybe that's not a bad idea. Basically that's it. A Helms manual helps for figuring out where the stock stuff was installed including where all the connections are. Hope this helps.

Does the booster fan have the mounting bracket & bolts??
You need another fan relay, one just like the main fan relay will be fine; you can mount it on the upper left rear of the main fan shroud.
You need a fusable link like that used to supply power for the main fan relay, or equivalent in-line fuse (I don't know the fuse capacity).
You can tap into the Blu wire going to the main fan relay to get control power for the booster fan relay (this is the wire color on an '88 Vette; may differ for an '86).
You need an aux fan switch and a length of Grn wire; wire it up to the new relay just as the Grn/Wht wire is done to the main fan relay.
You need some black spiral wrap to encase all the new wiring that cannot be tucked into an existing wiring harness.
The main thing you need is a GM Shop Manual for your '86 Vette.
The best form of instruction is to carefully look at the wiring of the main fan and duplicate all that except for the control point, which goes to the new aux fan switch.
To install the aux fan switch you will need to remove the square plug in the block below #1 & #3 spark plugs.
