most definitely.
I don't understand why the GM designers or upper managers making the decisions just don't seem to get it. When the V16 Cadillac was being designed, the designers had already mocked up a square looking Cad, simular to today's box look. Lutz took a look, told them to start over.
They came up with a sleek, low roofline, a beautiful piece of work! You'd think they'd use that basic idea, but nope.
They need to think outside the box! Many other manufacters are doing that, with style. Why can't GM/Chevy?
There was a thread showing the new presidential limo, they had hung '06 front end & back end off the body. I think the '06 is going to look like a pumped up Ford Crown Victoria.
i once had a baretta gt. i thought that car was sweet. i really had no trouble with it. right now i'm driving an 00 sonoma, which i bought new.so far all ive done to it is usual maintence, replace tires and front brake pads(twice) and the battery finally died during -24 degree weather. i've logged over 71k on her. i like the looks of it and the way it drives, and handles.when i decide to buy again, it will be a GM product, although not necassarily chevy
is it just me or is chevy loosing it, i mean they lost the ponycar. there ruining alot of old favorits like the malibu the montecarlo the impala. i dont know what to think about them anymore. all they have thats good is the vette and little compact thing and those they had to hop up(which i dont mind ) i dont know i miss the old chevy
still chevy will always be the best
We drove Cadillacs (all 7 purchased new) since 1974...Vettes longer than that. Last 2 Cadillacs were over priced, depreciated much worse than average, and were no better than some Buicks and Chevys friends had. Finally decided Cads were history for us and went shopping for European or rice burners. My son and daughter had both purchased 2004 Malibus and kept pushing us to consider one.
They taught the 'ol man something: we purchased a Malibu 5 door totally loaded. Nothing else came close to it in QUALITY, and features ergonomics, especially for the price! It has a bowtie and we love it! We are pleased with the improvements GM made in that model which is based on the Saab 6 with many similar features. I think GM is much better positioned for the current market than it was a few years back.
GM has many sleepers in their new line-up and many buyers havn't discovered them yet or still clinging to the GM image of old. IMHO, of course

I think that Ford and Chevy traded designers. Ford has done some cool things where Chevy seems to fall flat. The only car in the entire GM line up that is worth a damn is the Corvette... the rest suck.

I've grown tired of Chevy. The last three I've owned have been money pits... and the most recent other than my vette was a brand new S-10 that was in the shop 4 times in the first 9 months for the same f*****g thing. Each time they told me that they couldn't find anything wrong. :
The sad thing is that the other 2 cars I own are Mercury Cougars (Ford) and both have high miles and no problems. I also had a Ford F150 with 376,000 miles all original and it didn't leak, smoke, or ever disappoint. I wish I could say the same of Chevy.
Now my vette only has 28k and I love it so much that I dare not say anything cruel.
Chevy's trucks are good and solid but the car division with the exception of the Vette is fuglyville and i really wonder how it is going to affect the future of the brand

Ummm my opinion is a lot different than all of yours.
I like just about every car from Chevy. Including the MC, Impala, and the Cobalt.
The Newer SS generation of cars are good, but not good enough to live up to the reputation of the cars of the late sixties and early seventies. However the newer Monte Carlo SS is just plain awesome... Yet I'd prefer an 87 or 88 Monte Carlo SS over the newer ones.
The General has gotten tooooooooooooo conservative when it comes to design in my not so humble opinion. (Off with their heads)Dodge/Chrysler is cutting edge at this point, but I can't bring myself to buy one. I am a GM guy, but won't buy until they wake up! Even the new Vette is disappointing. The performance, as expected, is great, but the body I'm not talking about the headlights, which some people think should remain hide-a-way, but the a$$ is ugly, the front is so non-aggressive, plain. When I drive down the road you used to be able to pick out the VETTE, now I don't. Could be a Porche, Mitsubishi, Toy, can't really tell.

They are not selling because they are FUGLY. Visualy the car is about as exciting as a Suzuki Esteem.
PS. Other vehicles that GM makes that are on the FUGLY list
1. Poniac Aztek
2. Buick Rendesvous
3. Chevy Colorado ( Chevy tried to make every truck look like the Avalanche)
4. Pontiac Montana
5. Chevy Impala
6. Chevy Venture
Thats all I can think of right now. I have always liked GM, but they really have to hire some new styling talent. Their current styling of most products can be summed up in two words " BLAND & BORING".
About the only sweet looking car Chevy has is the `Vette. As far as the GTO goes, It can`t compare in looks with the old `64-`70 models in looks at all. It may in fact be a better all around car, but it has no "SOUL" like the old ones had. (of course all this is JMHO)
If you look closely at the new cars a large percentage of them are FWD, as they are much cheaper to build with everything in one place. Don't think the bean counters don't watch the bottom line, that is their main goal to make good profits. The FWD's are here to stay I'm afraid, at our expense. Most of the RWD's are trucks, and a large number of those a 4WD's.
I have questioned for years how the company that gave us the tri-5's, the Camaro, Nova, Malibu, and even the Corvair could bring out cars that are just blah. I am sure that I will adjust to the C6 but right now it just doesn't excite me at all.
If Ford has sense enough to bring back the 60's Mustang and the GT why can't GM find a way to bring back the 67-69 Camaro/Firebird. And for the most part there just isn't anything being built today that really excites me to the point of wetting my pants when I see them. Most of the 50's/60's Chevys would get your blood moving.

The list goes on and on, INCLUDING THE VETTE. If that is heresy to some so be it!!!!!
The GTO's problem is they took a car already being made in Australia, 'The Monaro', brang it to the states and labeled it the GTO, the 05' model looks a little better...still very Grand Prix'ish, But a nice LS2.
Came too close to picking up a GTO. After thinking about it, the only thing I found attractive about it was the drivetrain. Rather modify the drivetrain in the vette; at least it looks good. What that car needs are some muscular bodylines. The sides are just too flat. Still going to hold out for a new Camaro if they ever build it. Outside of that I'll stick to my old musclecar and my C4. At least they have some character.

My Pontiac/GMC salesman said the 04s were dogs in the looks department. Looks too much like an Accord. He said they were coming out with a shaker-style hood that could be retrofitted. If they could come up with something that screams "muscle" then they would have something.
