You wonder why the '04 GTO didn't sell??, look at it! It has a great drive train, but is still an import, and then they had the nerve to rebadge it as a GTO!. If you opt for the automatic you pay $1000 guzzler tax. You can avoid that of course by choosing the 6-speed, but that is a $1000 option. Hmmm.... something funny going on for sure.
I hear tell that of the 10,000 '04 GTO's manufacturered only 4,000 sold. How'd you like to be the first group of folks to buy one, and pay $5000 over sticker? Now they are greatly discounted and have a $5000 rebate. Oh yeah, The General has indicated that if you buy an '04 you'll be able to get an '05 hood retrofitted. That would help with some of the bland look, but the rear wheels still need help. Even though they ar 17", on this car they look tiny because of the slab side.
The General has a long way to go to make some decent, exciting autos. Someone mentioned the '05 Mustang, ...Ford will sell a zillion of them.
Boy I am in the mood to get flamed.
I love the corvette but my LS1 SS was pampered I put 40K miles and she fell apart LITERALLY. Anyhow if Chevy is going to ruin the camaro like gm has done bringing back some of the old cars, I would rather them not ressurect it. Compare the chevy ss pickup to the dodge srt10 I know what I would rather have Compare the cobalt ss to the srt4, which runs circles around the cobalt. Now the corvette is a different story I will not bring her into it. Corvettes ROCK Anyhow chevy needs to get there act together. I dont like having to buy dodges as a Daily driver because chevrolet has nothing IMO, notice I said in my opinion, that compares to some of the chrysler dodge products.
Kara, chalk up another dissatisfied Camaro owner. I was like you I took such care of this of my Camaro (Z/28). And it literally fell apart too. TWO engines because of piston slap, a transmission that failed right on the service drive when picking it up one day and numerous electrical problems. She was a beauty but a big pain in the A$$ and money pit.
I hate to say it but I don't see anything in the future that will pull GM out of this financial nose dive that there in. Just another sign that they are in trouble is that I just heard on CNN that Buick is probably going the way of Oldsmobile too.
i am a diehard chevy fan so i have faith that they will come back with something that will knock our socks off. just so they dont come up with something that looks as bad as the PT CRUISER NOW THAT WAS LAME i have to admit i think they could have done a little better designing on the gto other than robbing the grand prix and sticking a gto emblem on the side but i have faith in my number one car manufacturer GENERAL MOTORS they will come back with something. besides you all know they still make the american icon the CORVETTE
Chevy has gone downhill for quite a long time. Their chepest new car is korean
cobalt vs srt4
impala vs 300c
s.s. vs srt10
you pick the winners from above
the equinox has a korean built drivetrain. The engine is usually the good
part of a chevy sometimes the only good part.
The camaro and trans am oh wait if you want a pony car gotta buy a ford.
The ssr, a two seat two wheel drive truck with an almost useless bed that won't tow anything and handles like a truck priced like a vette.

LOL...Sorry to disappoint you buy they already are coming out with a PT CRUISER look alike called the HHR. It's bigtime fugly!
Dang dude, that is FUGLY!! The front end is some retro crap from the '50's, and the rest of the car looks like, well, put on some wood grain panels and you got a "woody"...

It got blasted on either CNN or SpeedChannel for being a misapplication: an SUV you can't load anything into because it's too small! So, for 2005-2006, we're still stuck with a department of bad decisions being made by design engineers and the approval from their management. They haven't got the vision to design something new! And, IMHO, really does Ford or Dodge because they're copying the older designs. All GM can do is copy Japan & Australian designs?

And the Aveo is a Korean Diatsu/Suzuki design (an average looking, not a heart stopper for sure...). I know Dodge & Ford are doing the same, but if Chev would only get a [design wise] handle on things like they did in the 50's & 60's.
When we show our Corvettes at the fair, the kids (adults too) flock to a '67/427ci one of our club members have. They love it! They look at the C5's, but he usually wins as the favorite. I think it's because of it's original design, only designed for 1967. They were desired just as much new as it is today.

Actually, they are nearly invisible on the street. That's one reason GM can barely give them away.
It's a good car, just doesn't provoke fear, awe, and lust in anyone's heart.
Not like a Corvette does....
As much as it pains me to say it, I think the ford designers got it just about right with the new 'stang. It has a retro style that appeals to nostalgic older drivers, yet modern enough that the younger crowd likes it too. If you're a racer type and have the bucks, order a hi-po version thats a rocket from the factory and lots of aftermarket parts too. If your young (read poor), you can get a standard version with 6-banger, but still own a cool looking Mustang.
Now, You don't need to be a rocket surgeon to see that GM should get their heads outa their a**es and come up with a Camaro/Firebird to compete with 'stang.
The last Camaro/Firebirds were reasonably attractive cars, once you got past the 12 foot overhangs at each end. Downsize the car, make it look like a '69 or a split bumper, then you've got something
GM has gotten so stodgy in their designs compared to Chrsyler/Dodge, and now even Ford has some nice designs that it makes GM look like your grandfather's car company. I would love to have the new GTO, but only because it has an *** kicking V8 pushing 400 HP, certainly not because it's a beautiful design. Like someone else said, it looks like an oversized Cavalier. GM needs some new young blood in their design department before the lose even more market share.
Interesting dissection of the State of GM. Didn't CNN or some other Business News Agency report that both Ford and the General lost money this yer? Even with sales being "up". Of course we all know that facts and figures don't lie, but then, don't liars know how to figure? Bottom line, just look around and see what's on the street and listen in the forums for what people are saying about their cars as they relate to others.
What's in your garage? I have two Bow Ties: my '92 Corvette and a '01 Silverado, but no other Chevy products. My Mustang GT provides a fun ride to get groceries or chase around town!
Chevy/GM needs some serious immediate help in their styling departments. Other than the Corvette and a few other models their cars and trucks don't show any imagination or style.

Rant Over
ZumZum, I could not agree with you more on what you have said. BUT PLEASE I hope they don't build it till they get it right. If there going to do it, I hope they don't rush something out there and have the typical GM lack of quality control. This has happened to them before when they just push it out just to get it on the market.
And second don't over price it to where it puts it out of range of the average Joe who will probably be buying them and hopefully be there bread and butter other than just trucks (and of course our beloved Corvette)
IMHO.... There is a lot of great heritage in the Camaro so DON'T DO IT UNLESS YOU DO IT RIGHT and only then you can have a winner.
I know...You might say I'm asking a lot here but to me the Camaro and it's heritage deserves it!
They are not selling because they are FUGLY. Visualy the car is about as exciting as a Suzuki Esteem.
PS. Other vehicles that GM makes that are on the FUGLY list
1. Poniac Aztek
2. Buick Rendesvous
3. Chevy Colorado ( Chevy tried to make every truck look like the Avalanche)
4. Pontiac Montana 5. Chevy Impala
6. Chevy Venture
Thats all I can think of right now. I have always liked GM, but they really have to hire some new styling talent. Their current styling of most products can be summed up in two words " BLAND & BORING".
About the only sweet looking car Chevy has is the `Vette. As far as the GTO goes, It can`t compare in looks with the old `64-`70 models in looks at all. It may in fact be a better all around car, but it has no "SOUL" like the old ones had. (of course all this is JMHO)
