I tried all sorts of brackets to hold my camcorder on my motorcycle and found that the bracket needs to be a short as possible and as stiff as possible to keep the camera from wobbling back and forth. Even then, depending on the camcorder construction, it may wobble on the mount itself. I could not tighten the camera down tight enough to keep it from shaking a little when the going got rough. This is where the helmet camera came in. It's just a camera that connects to your camcorder, but since it is very low mass you can stick it to almost anything and it stays put and doesn't shake. Good video quality too.

Some company makes a suction cup attachment, you can mount it to the hood, the roof or wherever you can get suction.
