Default Headers???????

Ok today both factory manifolds came off my 86L so I could install my new ceramic coated inside and out by Armour Coating Long tube headers from Headman...................
Ran into a few issues.
1)How much is a tetnis shot?
2)What does an air switchINg valve do, can it be eliminated if you are going to a aIR PUMP ELiminator.
3) I am deleting the pre-cats. The center catalytic convertor has a tube that runs along the manifold on the passenger side of the car.
Is this required for a new system or can it be eliminated?
4) My new headers do not have a place for an EGR. How do I remove this system (block off plates?). Is this going to cause any code issues?
Could I have a chip burned that would eliminate this?
Thanks Roger

1 No idea, but I should have gotten one too, lol.
2 The air solenoid near the A/C compressor can be eliminated, just unbolt it, and wrap up the electrical connections somewhere out of the way, just make sure it's weather proof.
3 If you are removing the air system, remove that pipe. It should run from the cat to the passenger factory manifold where it connects to a piece of hose that runs back to the solenoid.
4 you will need a block off plate for the EGR on the intake manifold. You can buy one, I beleive korvette4u a member on the forum has one for sale, or you could make your own. You will get a code 34 unless you find a way to wire up the EGR sensor that screws into the EGR pipe. You could have a chip burned to eliminate the code.

Good luck with your install. You'll like the difference when your done.

Default Do you have a Office Visit Copay

The depends on your insurance and if you have an office visit copay maybe $10 and plus $20 for the shot.

The air solenoid controls the air from the AIR pump you said you were going to take off. Ya know its the one by the Alternator.

Removing the air system .. you would have to remove all of it not just some of it. Also there are sensors that monitor this and feed it back to the ECM. You would need to get your chip reprogrammed.

The egr system is the same way, Can be removed but the ECM gets info from sensors.

Ref. If you take off the EGR and AIR why would you keep the main CAT.

If you do keep main CAT you will have problems with your o2 sensors because the ECM is also looking for codes from them.

Can be done on every thing but it should be done correctly. And by the way its illegal then to drive your car on the street under Fedral EPA laws.

Removing the AIR system, doesn't set any codes or effect performance.

Keeping the cat but not the air system makes sense. You will not get the quick light-off of the cat without the air system, but it will eventually heat up enough to be effective, just not as quickly as with the air system.

Removing the pre-cat will not effect the o2 sensor. You may need to switch to a heated o2 sensor depending on where the o2 sensor is located in the headman headers. I'm not familiar with the location in the hedmans, but if it's far enough away, the o2 sensor may not stay hot enough to be effective.

The tube running from the intake manifold on the pass. side down to the cats is the EGR. You will probably need the 88-91 pipe to make it work, but you can delete it if you use a blockoff plate. However, deleting EGR requires a chip reprogram because you'll get a Code 32 all the time when EGR is supposed to function.

Deleting the AIR pipes and system does not really require a chip reprogram. Usually people with the AIR eliminator dont run into any code issues. If you were already getting a chip to delete EGR, have them delete the AIR codes as well.

You will not run into issues with the O2 sensor and keeping the main cat. If you put the O2 into the bung on the headers, you'll be just fine.

Default headers cont.

How loud will my car be without any cats at all?

If I keep the center cat, cover the air hole, and have the computer reprogrammed will that be ok?

Who can reprogram a chip like this for me?

Thanks Roger

Loud.
It should be if the hole is permanently closed.
