Default performance upgrade questions???????

I am in the process of upgrading my 89 L98 stock engine with 92,000 miles on her. These are the items listed below. What other mods are needed with this combo to get the best performance. Keep in mind this is a weekend cruiser.

TPIS LT Headers
SuperRam Setup

My questions is.. What heads do I need or can I use my stock ones
What cam is needed
Throttle body suggestions ect. ect.

Last but not least what kind of horsepower can I expect out of these mods.

TPIS or LPE both offers a good CNC ported L98 aluminum head package. Or there are several aftermarket heads that you can go with, but be aware that your heads are built with a 58cc chamber volume and most aftermarket heads are made with 64cc chambers. I beleive only AFR makes them with 58cc chambers for the L98 cars. However most can be milled down to 58cc. With the SR manifold the cam of choice would be the LPE219 cam or something similar to that. It all depends on what other mods you have. Such as gear ratio, automatic or manual transmissions. Cams are not something that can be called more is better. More often than not when too much cam is installed performance will often suffer.

Get the LPE/Accel 74219 cam, and have the stock heads worked over or get AFRs. You should stick with the stock throttle body and injectors.

Then you'll need to have the chip reprogrammed after the cam change. After all of that, I would expect 390 crank hp.

In an automatic, I would also get at a 2400 stall TC.

You can either have your stock heads worked or buy a set of worked #113s and sell your stockers for $400-$500.

Then add a ZZ9 or 219 cam to round it off.

BTW, you can epxect close to 400chp from that setup once tuned.

TPIS has a good reworked head for the L98, and also Lingenfelter does as well. TPIS will be much cheaper, not sure how much more you could gain by going with LPE and their extra expense.

SR
TPIS headers
219 cam
2400 stall
flowmaster cat back
heads? trick flow ? will they work

Sure how much you want to spend? There was a supporting vendor that was selling short blocks for what I thought was a very reasonable price.

The TPIS/AFR competition ported 100% CNC'd L98 heads, set up with all the goodies up to .600" lift with 54cc chambers are approx. $1800 all said and done. The LPE version is about $2400, unless you send in your set as cores. I would get the TPIS/AFR heads, and sell yours, as was stated earlier good used D113's are worth $400-$500 and you should NO problem selling here on the CF.

IMO, I'd rather get brand new everything rather than build up my 120K mile L98, including the 700R4. Then, I will mod up from there.
