What to try next
Since this problem started on Labor Day weekend, I have had 3 different garages try to troubleshoot it, no codes, and no luck. New fuel pump, fuel filter, HEI module, MAF, distributor cap & rotor- still no luck. And there the car sat in my garage since September. Last week, I decided to fix it and found low fuel pressure that wouldn't hold, so I put in a new AFPR, diaphram, and 24# injectors. The car runs better than ever, runs cooler, and idles much smoother (still not quite perfect). I have good fuel pressure that still doesn't hold- goes up to 49 or 50 with pump running, then drops rapidly to zero after the pump stops. Pressure holds steady at 43 with the engine running. Cold start injector seems to be the culprit, resistence was only 5 ohms, and I read somewhere that it should be between 20-200. Crimping the fuel feed and return lines make no difference in the pressure holding.
What could possibly be making this thing just die when driving? There is no correlation to cruising slow down the road, idling in my garage, or driving the **** out of it, it randomly dies in any situation.
