I agree but in my defense that was in a straight line - I slowed down to 120 when I came up to a curve I probably wouldn't try it on a light bike either, this was on my '03 VFR 800 and it weighs over 600 lbs (as much as a busa).

I'm afraid since I got to be over 40 (16 years ago) that my pucker factor is only rated about 120 m.p.h. Anything over that and there is a danger of soiling my shorts.

midnight 85, i may have a couple trips around the sun more than you. but i feel i have the need, the need for speed. my wife says i'm not happy if my hairs not on fire.

USAsOnlyWay, i was at the end of a pack when a mercedes flashed his lights at me to move over, he was coming through. the cars in eo don't have all the emissions crap and other restrictions we have here, and this was a turbo car. my friend says he can't take a trip in the us, the slow limit would put him to sleep.

OK... NASCAR runs what 190-198 on the super speedways, Indy cars are at about 200-210 Indy a closed , smooth track. Now these are high dollar teams and drivers. And thats MPH not KM.

Now you say you running these speeds in a 10-$20k car down the interstate?
I'm not going to say it.... But all this has made me think I want some what you guys got

By no means do I any make assumtions or call
I myself have only gone that fast in a plane. But when I do you will be the first to know I'm sure.

well, this ain't . when you get to de, some of those germans have money, and they will buy the cars, and they will roll them down the road, and they love their autobahn. if you get rearended in that left lane, its your fault and you will get a ticket. hang in it for more than 1/2 a klik without passing, ticket. pass on the right, ticket. and the polizia are out there. we can never have an autobahn, or even a decent speed limit here because there are too many idiots who like to hug the passing lane and bring everyone down to their speed, and the cops won't do a thing about it.

Spent 3 long years in the FRG and tested the autobon a few times in the 80's
One time I got up to about 98 MPH I was in an opel GT manta. all 4 cyl were screaming, it was shaking, and parts just a fallin off it, wide open..... and you are right, they will run into your A** if you don't move.

worse thing about the whole three years was I married a German. Been paying for that mistake ever since

Guess I've gone full circle now. I'm back in the U.S. Got a new wife, a corvette, and no place to run it hard.

That really finds its roots in the much more logical and serious way Germans view driving and view vehicles. They believe that driving is a very serious task that commands the total concentration of the driver--and they're right. When they get behind the wheel on their autobahn's they are all business. Unlike most of us. The average American driver is a bafoon. I'm not referring to enthusiast American drivers, of which most forum members here would qualify, and actually most owners of serious cars, or even average cars as long as the driver is an enthusiast about driving and keeping their focus on driving and not sipping sweety pops or yakking on a cell phone or both.

I read in a car mag once about how the German auto makers were puzzled years ago when making inroads into the US market, that Americans liked to have Cup Holders built into the dash or console, etc. The very idea of drinking a refreshment while DRIVING was not in the German mind set. When they drive they DRIVE, and they take it seriously, or at least they used to. No place for sipping on your Latte' or Coca Cola when you're trying to keep a 4000lb machine under precise control @ 100mph+ on the autobahn. What was up with these idiot Americans they must have thought? Cup holders in cars? Ridiculous! That was their reaction. But ultimately, they wanted to sell cars in the US market and so had to bite the bullet and cave in to our frivolous American desires, lol.

But that sort of illustrates the difference in approach to driving between USA and Germany.

well instead of telling you about how fast I went - just for fun lets try to solve your problem.

If the formula coverter on the internet is right your tire Diameter is 25.66 inches so Circumfrence = D X Pie = 80.6 inches

So each time the tire rolls it covers 6.72 feet

If I calculate correctly - 160 MPH is 14,080 ft per minute

so 14,080ft per min /6.72feet per tire roll= 2095.23 tire rolls /minute
(i'm doing a little rounding here shouldn't matter much)

In the mean time - if the engine is turning 6000 RPM /0.7 overdrive means the drive shaft is turning 8571 X per minute

So 2095.23 / 8571 = 0.24445But that doesn't make sense cause rear ends are 2.73 or 3.07 right?

What about the reciprocal - well that = 4.09

well now my math agreees with everyone elses -

So it looks like I messed up - someone tell me where my thought process went wrong!

Default At 200 mph, car travels a football field every second

According to Road and Track Magazine, a car traveling 200 mph is moving the length of a football field every second.

I'm sorry to say, but I've never been over 110 mph in my 1990 Corvette. In fact, according to a performance spec sheet, it's top speed is only 150 mph.

I don't know where I could achieve anything close to 150 mph. I'd probably need a mile or two. In this part of Virginia, the back roads are so uneven. Plus, deer are lurking everywhere. Hitting a deer in a Corvette? How does that work?

I have been stationed in Germany for four years, and I do not agree with your statements. While the above transgressions are considered bad etiquette, the polizie do not troll around looking for people to give tickets to. I have been pulled over only once on the autobahn, and its because I was driving my BMW too fast in the rain for the conditions in their opinion. I can also say that at 150 plus, I have had to allow some amazing cars to pass me, but nothing has blown by me at 200 plus.
And yes the autobahn is great and the germans (and myself) love it, it doesn't quite prove your 209 MPH claim..just because you are allowed to go fast doesn't mean you are capable of that type of speed, as your quote seems to indicate..german cars do not even show MPH on their gauges, unless you coverted that from KPH, perhaps thats what you read when you looked at his speedometer.

For the original poster....

If you saw 160 in 4th then you have 3.07 rear gears.

When I first got my Vette I ran it up to 162mph in 3rd. At the time I had 2.59 gears.

Now with 3.07's and an LT4/Hotcam combo it shifts out of third at 145mph at about 6200rpm. The nice thing is that with a bit shorter gear coupled with a bit more power, 150mph sprints don't take nearly as long.

With the 4L60-E transmission which is controlled by the PCM (1994 - 1996 models), the 2.59 cars will not shift into 4th at throttle position of more than approx 66%. I may be wrong on the %, but it is in that range, about 2/3 to 3/4 throttle and above and it is locked in 3rd. However, the PCM allows a 3.07 car to shift into 4th under the same conditions. There is also a speed threshold in the PCM shift tables that prevents a 2.59 car from shifting into 4th above about 130mph regardless of throttle posit.

Don't know, but @ 150mph it would involve a tombstone for everyone in the Vette (as well as the deer).
