My 85 gets driven verry little in the winter, and there for looses its charge after a month or so if not driven. It's always been my thought that the computer uses a little current all the time to keep its memory alive, thus the battery goes dead. I keep it connected to a cheap float charger (Harbor Freight on sale) now and have no problems. I have a couple pieces of equipment that can go for months and still have enough battery power to start. No computers there. My neighbor had a 86 that he only insured for 6 mos in the summer and I can't tell you how many batterys I replaced in his car. He was a doctor and couldn't get his hands dirty.
Mojo, Exide had the sears account not to long ago. Then JCI got the account due to the return rate of batteries made by exide. I do not know if yours is a exide or a JCI made battery, but I can tell you this. If it is a JCI made battery, they stand behind their batteries complely, so if the dealer does not want to exchange it, it is due to him being to lazy to do the paper work. They will exchange a bad battery if it is a Sears, or if it is a Wal-mart. Also I had to chuckle, A moderator highjacking someone elses thread.

I have another Delco sitting in the garage that I didn't trust anymore... It went totally dead and didn't take a charge at first, so I replaced it with reman Delco battery...
Funny thing was I tried one more time to charge the battery and it took a charge... And the strangest part, the Delco, "green eye" came back and my battery tender indicates full charge...
The battery in my daily driver Caddy is starting to show signs of weakness, usually sitting at 11.5 volts when I first start it in the morning... If it fails, I'll probably stick that reincarnated Delco back into it and see what happens..
The Caddy I don't mind experimenting on, but I don't want to be stranded in the Vette somewhere...
Randy, got mine from NAPA, I didn't know Exide made it until I got it. My buddy only told me he had an Optima equivalent, so I went with it because at the time it was a deal. Today I can get a real Optima for cheaper. I'm still going to have him check it out.
Mojo, JCI makes the optima, however, we do not make them at our plant, so I do not know anything about them as far as return rates. I have read a lot of threads on here from people that have used them. I follow the c4 and c3 sections, and I seem to think I see more optima threads in c3. It looks like to me that there are a lot of people not happy with them. You might want to run a quick love them or leave them poll before you commit yourself to one. Just a thought, Randy
