Default Upgrading from L98 to LT1? Is it hard?

I have an 86 coupe. How easy would it be to upgrade the motor to LT1/LT4? Has anyone else done this? Thanks!

It would be a bitch...

I would recommend updating the L98. You can equal the output of any LT1 with proper upgrade selection.

if you've got high mileage, i would have your engine refreshed & upgrade the intake, heads and cam. looks like you've got your exhaust in good shape. this should be alot cheaper than the cost of converting to LT1, and with the package upgraders you'll blow the doors off an LT1 anyway.

I would stick with an L98 type engine. You have so many more options, like a 427, or a 434 or a 454 SBC

I dont see the point of doing so, unless you are interested in aspects of the LT1's optispark, or something along those lines.

Your L-98 can be built to do what an LT1 will do, without the hassle of all the other LT1 stuff that needs to be exchanged out.
Most the LT1/4 guys seem to be upset they cant get the cool blocks we have to choose from, etc...

I guess the best thing to do, is ask, what are you looking for? a new engine with some more power? or is it something those engines have that you are after?

OMG please don't call it an "upgrade"...

State your performance goals; if they are to have a 300chp engine (like the LT1) you can get that with your modified TPI and smoke the stock LT1s.
