Who's pulling the drop in? If it's you, that waaaaay high. If it's not, it ought to be. Labor to set gears generally runs from $150.00 to $250.00, depending on what he thinks his time is worth and his degree of comfort with the job.

RACE ON!!!

Depending on the mileage, bearings and a new set of posi clutches can be a good idea. You can save much more than half that labor charge if you drop it yourself. OH! Don't forget to swap out the speedo gears.

I pulled my rear in @ 2-hours, quite an easy project actually. And put in the Poly bushings while I was at it. ($50)

I dropped off the Dana 44 and paid $150 for the gear install, and $110 for a set of low mileage 3.45's.

Call Randys Ring and Pinion. You should get a master installation kit. It comes with all the bearings, shims, ring gear bolts, pinion nut and seals that one will need to install the gear set. It even comes with gear marking compound to paint the gears with so that the installer can see what the pattern is after the installation. Cost for a D44 install kit is roughly $100 plus shipping.
