I finished up my Ford 9" project. Just a refresher for everybody. Ford 9", 4 link, QA1 coilovers and new crossmember. I now have the interior and exhaust done. I originally had a Lenco locker in it, but after driving it, I pulled it out and put a spool in it. That Lenco locker was more harsh than the Detroit lockers I have drove, and it sounded like the rear end was full of rocks! It would about try to kick the back of the car sideways as it disengaged and engaged. The spool really does improve the driveability of the car. Plus the locker weighed 17 lbs, and the spool weighed 10lbs. I also put QA1 coilovers on the front. Over all, the suspension feels much softer (Had a Z07 suspension originally), but the rear end feels bulletproof. If nothing else, at least it shouldn't break.
Jim,
Very nice looking. I hope it works as good as it looks.
There are drivers meetings at the track March 1 and 2. The first is for Street Legal and Midnight Drags, racers and the second is for the Summit Series guys. Both meetings are at the track. 7:00 PM.
Looks sweet, I went and checked out Bowtie8 9inch set up Saturday and it looks sweet. I think once his done with his setup, it would be more of a bolt one 9inch than what everyone been doing. its not a 4 link or a ladder bar set his using a torque arm, kind of close to a F body rear suspension .. it looks real cool and you don't have to cut nothing up in the car
Looks great! I have my car apart installing a Roll cage and I'm so tempted after seeing your pics! How streetable is it? Can you go on the highway and do 70mph for an hour and never notice the diff from the IRS? I 'm stiil stuck with the idea I can go fast with the IRS, but eventually I know I'll wind up with a solid axle! Nice work! Enjoy!
The car isn't any less streetable than before. I drive it full time with ET streets, skinnies and no front sway bar, so handling isn't a big concern. It drives fine on the street.
