I for one wouldn't run a mix like you describe above but then who knows, it might work.

Anyways, to avoid the problem you describe with the guide plates, replace your stock rocker studs with LT4 rocker studs. They take the missing guide plate into account which in the end, translates into the same finished length of your stock rocker studs. These LT4 rocker studs also have a nice shoulder on the "nut" that tightens against the aluminum head. Almost like a washer that has been cast in place. The LT4 rocker studs are 3/8" studs. Not what most would prefer but if your not running the RPMs to the sky then the 3/8" should be just fine. I think I spent about $30.00 on a complete set of LT4 studs.

That sounds like a good idea except all of my rocker arms are 7/16"

That made me think. I just checked the rockers on an extra set of heads I've got. The bum sent me 3/8" rockers as well! I can't use these at all!!!

Functionally, it will be fine. The problem may come down the road, working on it. You will have to make sure the self aligning rockers get matched up with the "chopped off" guide plates. If you ever sell the car like this, the next guy is going to curse and call you everything but smart. Even a trained mechanic wouldn't suspect a thing, until it was too late.

RACE ON!!!
