Ive been waiting for a really good deal for a cam and springs.
and Ive found a good deal but is this the right cam and spring combo for me?
I have 1996 lt1 auto
3.07s but I could go to 3.31s dana 36
hooker 2151s 1 3/4 primaries
k and N open/ram air
52 mm tb..
1.6 rrs
underdrive pullies
ac delete
no cats or mufflers
Ive dropped about 250 lbs from stock weight.
stock TC and stock heads
is this more aggressive than hot cam?
I am looking for something with a little more pep than the hot cam
and Im not worried about driveability, emmissions, or choppy idle.
The springs have 130 lbs to much for the stock heads.
I would use the bee hive springs.
Why change cams the LT1 already has the power you need.
I would forget the cam and go with 1.6 RR and bee hive LS1 springs from Comp Cams and you can twist it to 6500.
What more do you want?
I think Ill prob end up going with hot cam...
unless I jsut hold out until I get my lt4 stg 3 proted heads.... where can I find the ls1 beehive springs?
thanks
your friend
Sean
The CC305 is a good choice but why the Crane springs? I would just go with the Comp Cams springs that they recommend, the 986-16's. I run the 986's in my car and they work great.
that was a friend's I sold before I thought about cammin my car.... and I had a hot cam kit coming to me and then the guy ripped me off for $325 ughhhh
so I have been slowly but surely collecting pieces and i got rrs and now I need cam and springs....
the reason for the springs... the guys is selling with the cam... i dont ahve to buy them... and wont..
I was just wondering if the CC305 was better for my application than the hot cam as I can get whatever springs i need.... obviously if i get 305 i will get springs they reccomend...
I've currently got a 305 in my car and it's not aggressive enough for me, you can barely hear the lope.
I've got a 6 spd with 4.10's so I can go up to a bigger cam a little more easily than you can. I don't know the specs of the 305 versus the hotcam but the 305 doesn't seem all that aggressive to me (or maybe I'm just used to it).
I was going to go with the 306 cam but I was recommended using one of their new Extreme Cams instead, you might want to check that out as well.
I've been working with David at ThunderRacing, very knowledgeable.
I've got the hotcam and I think it's pretty aggressive but I've only had the car back for a week so maybe I'll get used to it and think it's not aggressive a year from now. I still don't think my car's fast enough though maybe after it's broken in it'll be faster if not it's time for the NOS
You're going to have to clarify just what your application IS.
A "little more pep" is a bit vague.
We can see from your component list above where you are currently. If you define where you want to go, we can begin to discuss how you will get there...and correspondingly what cam options might be appropriate.
If you have an HP or ET objective, that would help.
I really just want someone to recommend a cam...
as I dont know anything about cams... and would like to install one in the next couple of months!
Just get the Hotcam, it's a great starter cam. It's relatively inexpensive as far as cams go, and when you decide to upgrade later after you have ported heads or larger displacement you can sell it here all day long. I know lots of guys with stock cars with the hotcam installed and they are happy. It will make good power with your stock setup. Get the whole kit with springs and all if you need them as well.
