New best last night..
Less windage on the crank. The oil thing is no joke. EVERY pan I have measured, is about 2 quarts under its rated capacity. I would love to know how these guys "rate" their pans.
My milodon, "top of the line pan", is rated for 7 quarts. When off, the sump only holds 5 quarts then it starts to overflow the frontal area! I only run 5 quarts including the filter, so there is probably about 4 quarts in the sump when the motor is running and oil is circulating.
Corky and Jim measured Jim's - stock pan, only held 3 quarts before doing the above mentioned.
COrkys Moroso pan, 7 quarts, only holds 5 quarts as well.
Dads 555 CI pan, only held 5 quarts in the sump.
Anything more than what is in the sump is a waste and your crank WILL pick it up and sling it over everything, and it WILL slow you down. A LOT more than you think.
Corky one friends accidentally put in 1 quart too much one weekend and was ~.3sec off his dial. Car runs 10.8s and was only getting 11.1s. He feared that something was seriously wrong with the motor. They learned that the only thing he did from the last time out was change the oil. Drained a quart out, 10.8s.
I remember reading what the "volume" ratings were on a standard SBC pump somewhere. It take a while for them to pump through 4 quarts of oil. Remember you are only talking a clearance of a a few thousands around bearings etc. There is not a lot of area to carry the volume. Hence really no need to carry 7 quarts in the pan. Furthermore, if you pulled your pan and filled the sump area up, you will quickly learn your 7 quart pan - truely only carries 5 quarts efficiently.
You running slicks or what on that car? With the ETs, I would think you have a bunch more in the 60' ft.
Let me know and I will have you check some things on the suspension and you will get even better 60s.
What stall and what gears in your combo?

Of course icing down the intake will help some.....but not 3 tenths....least not in my experience. And my engine seemed to like to be around 170-180 deg.......anything hotter or colder would slow it down.
The difference between our times is likey the DA. My best times were in negative DAs......what are your DAs? With the 350, it would stay in the 11s up to about 2800-3000 ft.
