The flashes are counting like this:

<flash> pause <flash> <flash> longer pause
<flash> pause <flash> <flash> longer pause
<flash> pause <flash> <flash> longer pause

then the code.

A code 43 would look like this:

<flash><flash><flash><flash> pause <flash><flash> <flash> longer pause
<flash><flash><flash><flash> pause <flash><flash> <flash> longer pause
<flash><flash><flash><flash> pause <flash><flash> <flash> longer pause
<flash><flash><flash><flash> pause <flash><flash> <flash> longer pause
<flash><flash><flash><flash> pause <flash><flash> <flash> longer pause

Five times.

If there is another code, then you will get that. if not, a 12, again. And the cycle repeats itself.

The 12 indicates the ECM is active and working.

Jumper pins A & B (upper two) of the ALDL, turn the key On and count the flashes and jot down the numbers till you see the 2nd set of 12s.

Note that each code will be two digits like 22, 32, etc.

ALDL terminals are: F E D C B A
...........................G...........M

Ground A & B. With key on, 12 will flash 3 times, then each trouble code stored will flash 3 times each. After all stored trouble codes are shown, 12 will flash 3 times again. Before any repair is made, disconnect battery. This also serves to clear any stored codes.

Here's a shot of your ALDL:

Jump A and B and count the flashes like bogus stated. To be on the safe side, make sure the ignition is off when you jump the terminals then rotate to the on position (don't start). Turn ignition off before you remove the the jumper.

Hey Snake: Go to Auto Zone and ask for the FREE metal key that goes into the ALDL connector and use the paper clip to hold paper sheets together! The key is free and easy to use!
