Can someone tell me how to remove a manual shift ****, I have the top cover off but there is a square metal piece in there, what to do with that. Thanks in advance...

it is a complete PITA to remove, but try to squirt some wd40 around the base and let it soak for a moment. Then try to grab it with a pair of needle nose pliers and pull like a ****. Also, don't be afraid to use a flat head screw driver to pry on it, but be careful when you do that.

The best way to get it out is to grab the key with a good set of vice grips and tap it out with a small hammer. I had a small C-clamp that I put on the vicegrips so I could tap on something.
if it is a 6-speed, the best way to get that off is to fabricate a thin, flat piece of metal and put a 90 degree bend a 1/4 inch away from the end. Then it will grab on the lip of the metal peg and it will come out really easy.

You don't have to make this tool. Go to an autoparts shop and buy a brake tool adjuster. It's the one that turns the self-adjusting cog on drum brakes and it looks like a mini-prybar. It works great on the 6-spd wedge pin.
