Default Headlight Help!

I just got a '92 Vette 2 weeks ago. Well Last week the passenger side light does not open or close all the way without "help". It goes half way and then just sticks and then the motor just continues to run for like 10 seconds after the driver side (the functional one) already had done its thing and the motor had turned off. Any ideas on what the deal is??

Thanks

Default Same thing happened to my 1990 Corvette

Yeah, I had the same thing happen to my 1990 Corvette just a few hours after I bought it. Of course, the previous owner warned me that the headlights were having problems. Along with the car, he gave me a bag of bushings and metal gears.

I removed one of the headlights and tried to intall the bushings, but it was beyond my ability. The bushings are small plastic rollers that work in conjunction with the gears.

I removed both headlights and took them to Lakeside Auto in Richmond, Virginia, and they installed the metal gears and bushings. The headlights have worked beautifully since then. I saved money by removing the headlights and taking them to the shop. I think you can order the bushings from Zip Corvette or Ecklers. My old bushings had turned to something that resembled sand. Good luck. -- Eric

Sounds like you need to replace the bushings in the headlight
gear. The tech tips are a great guideline. I bought the parts from Ecklers for $5 aside, and it took a total of 3 hours do do both sides.
I found that you do not need to loosen the motor & risk breaking the 2 mounting bolts. Just releiving tension as outlined in tech tips & some elbow grease you can get the gear out. One side was work, other came apart with no problems. Good Luck.

There are several manufactuors such as Ecklers and Corvette America that make these kits for under $6.00. If by chance you need the motor I happen to have two motors for headlights available.
Replacing the bushings is not a big deal. Get back with me and I'll show you how. If you do a search on this there are lots of people who have done this on this site already.
