Default 700R4 problems

My 700R4 in question is on my '82 Vette, but I posted here in the C4 section because so many C4's also had them. My problem is that it seems to be slipping somewhat and I am getting hard shifts sometimes. The car had set up for about 3-4 years when I got it, but only has 86k miles and has never been abused. My question is, will sitting up for a while cause this? I have put some of the Lucas treatment in it and it has stopped the leaking for the most part, but should I continue to drive it and see if it gets better or go ahead and get it rebuilt? I have only driven it about 300 miles since I got it. Thanks is advance.

You have the first year of 700R4 production. GM kept improving them every year up until about 1988, when they finally got most of the bugs out of them. *I* think you are on the verge of an overhaul, which will require all the "update" kits. You can keep driving to see what happens. If it starts getting going down hill, stop driving it and making matters worse.

RACE ON!!!

I agree. If it fails, you will likely be better off to start the rebuild with a newer core. I can provide details if needed.
