Whats the guys name?

I don't recall him sending me back the chip 3 times. Especially without datalogs or something of that. Looks like the guy also had a custom cam and afpr, is it possible he has the afpr setup right? And why did he not expect sending it back 1 or 2 times with a custom cam?

I know you can't see the afr in the datalogs.. thats why we also take dyno sheets

What type of work do you do? Say your a mechanic and someone stepped in and said Wrench turning UNLOCKED in order to provoke some harsh feelings towards your profession. "Everyone will be faster if they do thier own engine work" Wouldn't you get a bit upset?

I'm out for the rest of the evening, so don't think I slithered away like some people. OFF TOPIC I'm tuning a sweet race car for a handycapped kid then heading out to the track so that he can get back into racing after 2 years since his accident., so if anyone wants to stop by MORE in Charlotte and then Mooseville Dragway in Moorsville feel free. Should be pretty interesting.

KVU,

Your buddy is Micheal B

My records and ledger shows that he bought his chip in may 2004 and never once sent it back.

If he has a problem with the chip, he more than welcome to send it back with a datalog, a dyno sheet, or anything for that matter.. But if somethigns wrong with it and I don't know about it I can't fix it.

You are wrong. The name is not even close. Just like your PM accusing me of selling a chip at TGO and said I was kicked out for it.

Why does is bother you if I post data? Maybe because the results will make you look bad? You guys at pcmsforless are kicking out what, 50+ chips/PCMs a day? That's some good bread. It's really suprising that you guys would care about one little post on the internet.

KVU, you are takeing the spotlight away from Jesse, and you are now sounding like a JERK. Get off the forum, call ALvin and discuss this like gentlemen. You are proving no point here other than you are an A**

You guys are really missing the point. Just forget it.
I'll get off the forum, since I'm not welcome.

I know that it could be perceived as cocky. People shouldn't be so worried about the affection in my post and focus on the message. It's possible to DIY tune your chip, and do a better job than some company. Figured I would post this see what kind of interest there was for some results.
....Hard data that vs one mailorder chip against another. Then demonstrate what the average DIY tuner could do.

Like I said, just forget it all. Everything was fine until Jesse was brought up. Then it switched topics again when Alvin took the thread as a personal attack. I guess you guys can just delete the whole thing. Sorry for the misunderstanding.....

KVU, you can DIY, that is a no brainer, but some of us DONT have the time to do it, and we dont have a dyno tuner in area, so we gather data for a mail order company. Then when a wideband becomes available, we get that data to him to. The experince a tuner like Alvin, or whover is far more than most of us, expecially when allot of work long days, and in my case months at a time away under the ocean in a blessed submarine.
SO DIY is great, do it if you can, you still need the same hardware and softeware to tune it, a dyno, dataloggers, wideband etc, so why not pay someone to do it, because once its done and finetuned by whoever you choose, its DONE, and for 250 bucks, you havent spent a fraction of what it cost to buy all the gear, and learn. CONVENIENCE.

If someone isn't happy with their tune they should go back to the vendor. Demand satisfaction. If someone dosen't know how to tune their ride are they really going to notice a couple HP loss vs. spending an ungodly amount of time learing to do it themselves?

Sure they might notice a horrible tune that spews gas everywhere. I can't see a mail order tune being such a bad thing when you need it and if it's done correctly.

Personally I'm weighing my options when it comes to this 383 I'm building. I'm torn between spending the time to learn how to do it myself or work with a reputable vendor, spend the money and learn as much as the vendor is willing to tell me.

Not to mention if I try to learn things myself and experiment I run the risk of ruining $3000.00 worth of motor parts.

It's a tough call when you have a full time job, two kids, personal issues, and trying to assemble and install a big inch small block all at the same time.

Certain things for some people are just better left to professionals. Sure anyone could do anything themselves given the time to learn it and gain experience. For example, I'm sure I could do all of my own machine work given the tools and knowledge. Tuning is the same thing, but what your paying for mostly is knowledge.

I still don't know what to do.

Makes me remember the story about the retired guy called back to the office to fix the big computer. He took 5 minutes and charged them $5000. When asked what the $5000 was for he replied, "$50 bucks to fix the problem, $4950 for knowing how and where to fix the problem"

I am adding to this thread now because I feel it may be locked and I'd
Like to add my 2 cents. I have Alvins chip in my car. I have some pretty good datalogs. Not perfect, but pretty good. The important thing is that when I contact Alvin he says "if there is a problem send me a datalog and I will work on it" with a lot of sirs, please and thank yous thrown in. He wants to nail the tune down. Thats it. No excuses.
This kind of service is hard to find. A mail order tune can be made to work.

Well you know what, this thread has nothing to do with the original topic unless the original intent was to bring down Jesse.

I believe I may have said this before, do your comparison and only after you have your results, post it.

I don't want to see anymore posts with Alvin and Jesse both mentioned.
