Hey, ALL4C4LT4 and I are installing EM long tube headers on his car, this weekend. I put long tubes on my L98, but not on my LT4, yet. The question is: how do you remove the brackets holding the CATs to the bellhousing/block? We can't reach the top bolts. Do we need to drop the C-Beam and lower the Tranny a bit? that's my guess. Any help is appreciated.

On my '96, the only way to reach those bolts is to remove the C-beam so the engine tilts back as you suggested above.
I like Mike's approach...cut 'em off at the cat. If the C-beam ever needs to come out, then the bracket can be removed.

Same here. When I pulled my engine out to rebuild, all of that stock crap was still there. Between the stupid ground stud (NO ground wires are now bolted to my bellhousing bolts) the idiot design and the bolts frozen in the cats which wouldn't come loose even with heat, I finally took the hot wrench to the whole damn mess and they were history! And yes, it will help to lower the rear of the trans.

And the good news is, once you get through THIS cluster foxtrot, the rest of the header installation is a relative joy. These are among the easiest cars I've ever bolted headers to. And you'll be rewarded and gratified every time you look under your hood and see those beauties instead of ugly old stock manifolds!
