i can say that the 3.90's will work for me at the drags. 6500 rpms will get me to about 127 mph.. that should be ok.. ill have to see what trap speeds i can pull this year.
LT4 Power- I also saw the gears at Randy's and Tom's. It's obvious that the 4.10 are better at the track but I think 3.92 would be better all round when you consider the street driving, fuel economy (especially since i'm going to go stroker) and the possibility of the shift to 5th??? For my application I'm trying to find the happy medium and not turn my vette into a drag car. I'm I right guys?

First of all 4.10's in a 6 speed work very well in a 6 speed on the highway and around town.....
For the strip, if 4.10's equal 115mph at 6300, then 3.92's equal 120mph at 6300.......so you can do more than just quess in selecting the gear ratio........
My point is you can do better than a "happy medium"...do what works.....
3.73's are almost the perfect ratio for road racing, and also allows you to get a little more top end than the 4.10's. I got my HD 3.73's from Randy's Ring and Pinion with the install kit (about $330).
I had a good friend pull the pumpkin and do the re-install. Took the pumpkin to a local driveline shop (don't mess around here) and had them install the gears. That came to $225 I believe (3 hrs labor). I believe if you had a shop do it all you will get charged about 10 hrs of total labor so alot will depend on their labor rate. Not only that but there's a good chance they will have a driveline shop do the gears, and they'll make a few bucks on top of that.
Randy's sells the Dana gears in a Yukon box. They use a D60 Pinion gear with a D44 Ring gear. BTW, mine are whisper quiet.
4.10 gears are not going to work with a 6speed running into 11's unless you shift to 5th or wind the hell out of it.. especially mid 11's. you will probalby lose a lot of time with that extra shift. i hope to run a low 11 or even a high ten. 3.90's will give me 127 mph at 6500 3.73's will give me 133 mph at 6500.
first i need to go to the dyno and see where my shift points need to be. then i need to see where my 3.33 are at for rpm's at trap. then i can make a decision..
you dont have to make your vette into a "drag" car. but if you do go to the track a few time a month then why not put in what works for your setup.
you want to pass the through the traps at max hp. but for me its harder to setup because i dont use the nos every pass.
last year i was passing about 105 mph n/a. that was 4600 rpm's with my 3.33's shifting at 5300 rpms.. but with the nos i was passing at 117,5100 rpms. which was my peak hp.. this year peak should be at 6500, so that changes everything..
i have a lots of friends that have 8 and 9 sec cars.. and ive been told by them and many others that you want to pass the traps at your shift points..shift points usually being max hp..

Optimum shift points would never be at max hp unless max hp is at red line!!!!!!
Passing thru taps at what would be the shift point does make some sense and could be true, but I am still not sure about this......
I can answer two of your questions from personal experience:
1) stay away from Richmond gears for a street car !!!!!!!!!!!!
Carolina Imports installed a set in my car, re-checked the back
lash two times and sent them back. The noise was increadable and
it was not due to improper install.
We got Danna gears in the car and they are a quiet as the stock 3:42's.
2) Get the 4:10's. iWork out the numbers on a gear chart
the difference between 3:75 and 4:10 was only something like
70rpm. I got to drive my 1995 with 3:75's and 4:10's. The 4:10
are definatly the way to go. Compaired to the 3:42 stock ratio, I am
one gear higher and I actually USE 6th gear now. Skip shifting is
do'able, on easy acceleration I just use the top row: 1- 3- 5- 6
when I'm lazy: 1 >4>6
3) if you wanted to sacraface about 10mph crusing speed and
were more concerned with 1/4 time: 4:21 'sare NOT
unreasonable if you can live with a 60-65mph cruze speed.
Don't be over consertive on final drive with the 6sp Trans.
MPG's are not effected so long as you stay around or below 2Krpm
cruze speed.
Get your gears from Exocitic Muscle:
they sell genuine Danna gears
prices are reasonable
they supports our hobby and the forum.
If you're going to do a stroker I would stay with 3.73's. I run 315 Nitto 555 drag radials all the time and still have to baby it off the line. If you don't drive hard on the street and have a set of drag tires for the track then the 4.10's might make more sense.
I recently put 478 in(yes I said 478) they make the car come to life.It runs 1950 rpm in 6th at 60mph,but in town at lower gears look out. This was a gear from precision gear and it is a factory dana 44gear.
