Default Do I or Don't I?

Okay, do I put twin turbos on my vette or not?
I have a flawless 96 Competition Yellow Coupe. Only 18K miles. This is a great driver, of course it only comes out on the great weather days.
I like the 300hp but sometimes I want more.
The problem is that I hang with a friend that has a C5 with twin turbos and NOS. Needless to say it is a sweet ride with all sorts of mods.
I assume that there is a lot of upkeep and work involved when you start playing games with your ride. Am I right?

So what do I do? Should I have the hp inorder to keep up or just enjoy the sweet ride I have and not worry about the problems that a TT can cause?

Thanks for your input

How deep are your pockets? That's really the only limiting factor. If you have a clean ride, I'd almost consider finding a "fixer-upper" to turn into your frankenstein...

Screwing with that vette is almost punishable by death. You need a not as nice vette that you wouldn't cry every time you had to drill a hole in.

You're gonna spend about $15-20K if you want a "proper" twin setup. And that's if you're doing the work yourself. How much experience do you have in fabrication and auto tinkering? If you want to hang with a twin turbo C5 with nos I think you're gonna need some heavy duty stuff. How much power is he pushing??

By the way, Why a twin setup? Singles are usually easier to put in. And why turbo? Why not a supercharger? You can find an almost bolt in supercharger setup that will still hunt down your friend, with ALOT less custom work than with a turbo setup.

That is why I started this thread is to get this type of feed back. Thank you. I have considered just a single turbo set up and quite frankly would perfer it. $$ is not a big issue. Don't get me wrong I'm not Trump, but I have it to spend.
My experience with fabrication......zero. I would be paying to have it all done. I don't plan on being able to keep up with my buddy just looking to have a little more guts in the car.
I have heard some superchargers on other vettes and they seem to do a lot of chirping. Maybe it was just the type of supercharger the guy had.
However, seeing these two responses alone, I think I'll leave my baby alone. I don't think I could handle drilling holes in her.
Thanks again.

Or you could pull a me and tear into an LT4 Collectors Edition...lol but that was the car I had always dreamed of modding.. I bagged the LT4 of course and built another motor.. the parts I am drilling and grinding, are replaceable if the time ever comes for it.. and the motor mount bracket will only be welded to the top of the frame rail so it can be removed and ground smooth and painted back to perfect.

I am not sure your completely correct on your car not having potential to be as fast as your friends TT C5... take a sneak peak on the camaroz28 board.. Jose from PTK is making over 1000 RWHP on a T88 single turbos 355 block with a baby cam.. obviously, that is much more then what most will want.. but the TT C5's I have seen in person and read about, were nice but not holy impressive to me most in the 550-650 RWHP range.. maybe I got used to supras.. but 550-650 just feels so so to me now..lol

Chris

PS.

If you change your mind.... Being that I have gone through it once and have fought the engine bay and am now winning, I might be interested in helping out some with the fab work!

If money is no issue like you say, buy a new c6 ZO6 and turbo/nitrous/SC it up and see who owns. The only thing limiting performance in my book IS money. Those with the most to burn also have the fastest cars. If you have lots to burn, beating your friends C5 should be a breeze.

A supercharged 396 with the 150 shot of the funny stuff would do the trick...your still looking at like 15-20k...and yes Superchargers are noisey..your not going to like the sound on a mint car like that when its idling..

If you are gonna go a supercharger route...talk to Greg@Blowerworks...he is the man...

First of all thank you to everyone for all the suggestions.

I have considered a new C6.........However, I'm right back in the same situation. Do I or Don't I mess with a clean ride. Right now, to quote zelement, I'm gonna "leave the virgin ALONE."
The car is way too clean. As much as I want to mod it I just can't do it to her. I guess I'll keep going to the track and watch my buddies turn 10 seconds in their cars. But at the end of the day there is nothing broken on mine.

Heck when my car was 6 months old and with 1600 miles on it. I ripped the engine out and replaced it with a blown 396 LT4 I still have the original LT1 sitting on the engine stand. I use it to mock up other goodies for LTx applications

I hear ya man. It took me a while to muster up the courage to de-flower my virgin 1990. Maybe you should garage queen that baby and put velvet theater ropes around it. Then get you an older/higher mileage war hog and do what tjwong did. Then you'll have cake and eat it too, so to speak.

precisely... just figure the car as the cheap part of the modfest.. find a 95-96 LT1/LT4 shop hard and you could grab one for around 8-12 in decent shape, or even better, find one with a blown motor since a rebuild is inevitable anyways to run any decent amount of boost through her..... then like stated above.. rope off the comp yellow virgin and tear into the new fun car!

Get a t trim vortech kit with gregs 8 rib damper, alky injection, a 2.85 reichard pulley, and you'll be able to do some serious damage.

I like Skateparkdave and Icvette thoughts.

That way I could mod the hell out of the body too and not feel bad about it. My Comp Yellow baby is already a garage queen for the most part. Not one rainy day nor snow. The underside is almost as clean as the top of the car.
