Do I or Don't I?
I have a flawless 96 Competition Yellow Coupe. Only 18K miles. This is a great driver, of course it only comes out on the great weather days.
I like the 300hp but sometimes I want more.
The problem is that I hang with a friend that has a C5 with twin turbos and NOS. Needless to say it is a sweet ride with all sorts of mods.
I assume that there is a lot of upkeep and work involved when you start playing games with your ride. Am I right?
So what do I do? Should I have the hp inorder to keep up or just enjoy the sweet ride I have and not worry about the problems that a TT can cause?
Thanks for your input
Screwing with that vette is almost punishable by death. You need a not as nice vette that you wouldn't cry every time you had to drill a hole in. You're gonna spend about $15-20K if you want a "proper" twin setup. And that's if you're doing the work yourself. How much experience do you have in fabrication and auto tinkering? If you want to hang with a twin turbo C5 with nos I think you're gonna need some heavy duty stuff. How much power is he pushing??
By the way, Why a twin setup? Singles are usually easier to put in. And why turbo? Why not a supercharger? You can find an almost bolt in supercharger setup that will still hunt down your friend, with ALOT less custom work than with a turbo setup.

My experience with fabrication......zero. I would be paying to have it all done. I don't plan on being able to keep up with my buddy just looking to have a little more guts in the car.
I have heard some superchargers on other vettes and they seem to do a lot of chirping. Maybe it was just the type of supercharger the guy had.
However, seeing these two responses alone, I think I'll leave my baby alone. I don't think I could handle drilling holes in her.
Thanks again.
I am not sure your completely correct on your car not having potential to be as fast as your friends TT C5... take a sneak peak on the camaroz28 board.. Jose from PTK is making over 1000 RWHP on a T88 single turbos 355 block with a baby cam.. obviously, that is much more then what most will want.. but the TT C5's I have seen in person and read about, were nice but not holy impressive to me most in the 550-650 RWHP range.. maybe I got used to supras.. but 550-650 just feels so so to me now..lol
Chris
PS.
If you change your mind.... Being that I have gone through it once and have fought the engine bay and am now winning, I might be interested in helping out some with the fab work!
Chris
wow, you're a disturbed individual my man.
that's awesome

If you are gonna go a supercharger route...talk to Greg@Blowerworks...he is the man...
I have considered a new C6.........However, I'm right back in the same situation. Do I or Don't I mess with a clean ride. Right now, to quote zelement, I'm gonna "leave the virgin ALONE."
The car is way too clean. As much as I want to mod it I just can't do it to her. I guess I'll keep going to the track and watch my buddies turn 10 seconds in their cars. But at the end of the day there is nothing broken on mine.

Heck when my car was 6 months old and with 1600 miles on it. I ripped the engine out and replaced it with a blown 396 LT4
I still have the original LT1 sitting on the engine stand. I use it to mock up other goodies for LTx applications

Then get you an older/higher mileage war hog and do what tjwong did. Then you'll have cake and eat it too, so to speak.

That way I could mod the hell out of the body too and not feel bad about it. My Comp Yellow baby is already a garage queen for the most part. Not one rainy day nor snow. The underside is almost as clean as the top of the car.
