I have an 1986 with a manual transmission that the crusie control does not work on and I would like suggestions on where to start looking for a broken wire or anything like that. Is there someplace that I should start once I get pass the fuse block? Thanks for any suggestions. Russ
When the cruise on my 86 went belly up last year, I did a lot of research into the possible cause.
Fuse first, then all the vacuum hoses (don't forget the ones under the dash at the clutch and brake pedals) and the rubber bellows.
Start at the front of the car, in the area of the driver's side headlight, and check the hoses all the way rearward. Could be something as simple as a cracked/leaking/disconnected hose.
Then you need to check the voltages at the connector. I can post which ones should read what once you get to that point and need me to.
I went through the whole routine also when I got my 88 coupe. I finally found the problem behind the distributor! Broken vacuum line. Hope that's all it is with yours.
There's a vacuum check valve coming off the back of the plenum on the passenger side. One port goes to the cruise control and the other goed to the heat/ac ducts. Costs $5.
