Default Exhaust System Question

I have a 86 Vette that sits very low to the ground. I am looking at getting headers and everyone I have talked to has always recommended that I get long tube hooker headers. I definetely want the long tubes. If anyone has these headers can you give me the part number for them and any info on ground clearance issues, and any positive or negative feedback on them as far as sound and performance gains go.

Thanks

Hooker 2149 and 16720 Ypipe, if you want the emissions hookups, ceramic coated with O2 bung already in.

Get them from Summit Racing.

You could also get TPiS headers if you like.

Either will give about 15hp on the L98.

The part #s are 2149 are the emissions legal ones with all the smog hookup stuff and #2151 for the non emissions type add a - 1 after the part # if you want the ceramic coated headers. I didn't have any ground clearance problems with mine but were kind of a pain to install (some bolts and clearance issues here and there) But well worth the performance gain.

If your keeping emissions go with the Hookers or TPIS. If emissions are going away (like mine) you could also consider Hedman Elite coated headers. They are much cheaper (reason for many not using them) and they fit early C4's very nice. I have them in my 86 and am very happy, nice gains at the track.

Hedman also offers headers for retaining all the smog equipment.

Yeah I looked at them when I got mine. If you get the coated ones without the emmisions they are $325.88 at Summit. If you get the sames ones with the emmisions they jump to over $500.00. You can get the painted ones for $325 as well but that $200.00 jump was a little high for me.

You are correct. Actually Hedman offers 8 part numbers for L98, C4s. They range from $135.88 to $515.99. Still, feature for feature, significantly less than Hookers and with more appropriatly sized tubes for 90% of forum members.

Oh Yeah.. No questions on that. I bought the coated Headmans without the emmisions for my car. I could not see paying $700 ++ for a pair when so many on here have had luck with the Headmans.

I can't justify the costs of EM or Hookers but the coated Hedmans are more in my price range
I'm all ears on this one
