The interior lights and audible signal in my 1984 Corvette do not work for either door. I am reasonably certain it is because of the switch in the dash. I know how to get to it, but I don't know how to test it. Can anyone help me?
From what you are saying, your interior lights are not going on when the doors are open or with the light switch turned all the way clockwise(which turns on the interior light)? If this is the case it may not be the switch but the lights in the door panels. There is a plastic switch inside the light that turns them on and off in a map light function, these are pretty cheap and not very reliable. You may also want to check the door switches as they also turn the lights on and off. Of course check the fuses it of course will be under CRTSY or some form of label for COURTESY. Now the actual key and light warning buzzer is behind the information center on the center console(were the idiot lights door ajar, etc.) It is kind of a pain to get to. You need to take off the dash(gages) overlay and then the center console overlay, then the 2 bolts that hold the information center in place and you are there. It sounds like more work than it really is.
Good luck.
I do have the manuals (machanical, electrical and the dash) so If I have not covered your problem we can keep on going until it either works or smokes(just kidding about the smoke).
This is why I keep coming back to this forum. Thank you all for your input. By the way, the lights do work when I activate them using the headlight switch. I will do some testing tomorrow night and see how things go. Based on the overall condition of the wiring in my car, a ground problem seems a good possibility.
Well, the good news is I was able to get the trim pieces etc. removed to get access to the timer switch for my interior lights. The bad news is I was not able to FIND the timer switch. I suspect that a former owner may have entirely removed the switch. Under the hush panel on the passenger side of my car there is a black wire which has been cut at both ends. If I am reading my GM repair manual correctly, that is approximately where my timer switch should be. By any chance does anyone have an actual picture of the timer switch?
