As part of my tranny swap I decided to change my leaking Dana 36 with 2.73 to a Dana 36 with 3.07. Everything came out great but when I compared the two units the batwings are a little different. The measurements for all the mounting points are the same but the bracing on the batwing seems to be beefier on the replacement unit. I got the unit used from a local guy who said it was from an 84. Any insight would be helpful. Thanks
86, i'm not sure, but i heard that the IRS on 84's was poorly designed. i'm not sure if they changed the design on later models, but if they did, that might account for the different batwings. once again, this may be bum scoop. see if someone else will confirm or deny this for ya.

As I said in the response to the PM you sent me, except for the super stiff rear spring, that still makes the '84 one of (if not THE) best handling C4 ever built, *I* know of no IRS parts that are exclusive to the 1984. The 1984 design is no different than the 1996 design. There ARE some parts differences over the years, though.
