Guys, my rack unit has blown the driver's side boot off it 3 times now. The steering does not show "morning sickness" in fact it feels great but if I'm splitting the boots wide open then it must mean the seals are gone right? Thanks for any help.
Your boots are full of fluid
I'm pretty sure that there is a good chance the seal is gone
Rebuilt racks are cheap and they come with new boots. I paid $165 cad
Anyone know who sells a "rack & pinion mechanic in a can" It looks pretty tough to get to!!
Available at most auto parts stores for about $9.00. I had a huge leak from my rack and this stuff stopped it. The steering feels much better and the "morning sickness" is gone too. I don't think that it is a permament fix, but it will buy you some time. It worked for me even after several months of daily driving. I'm still going to replace the rack with a new one in the future, I just don't fell like doing it right now.

The crap i tried in the vette made my leak worse (pinion valve seal)
Tried Lucas in the Ford Exploder with no luck but i have read good things when it comes to people trying it in their vettes
Cheapest I could find was NAPA at $189.88. I'll get one ordered. Thanks to all who have helped. The sad thing is, I just re-did the whole suspension with poly, including the rack. It's no fun but it's not a terrible job. I think getting the rack separated from the column and getting the hoses off is the worse part.
The second sad thing is that the car has just been re-painted and a whole new interior and has been down since Sept. I took it out today for the first time and this is had to happen.
