I am not sure how trustworthy those numbers are, but seems feasible
I am re-rebuilding me vette after a small underhood fire and complete engine explosino (3 rods were sticking out of the oil pan - yes three)
I am contemplating the same cam they used with the fastburn heads I have (they are getting light porting and polishing), TPIS miniram III intake (which is made for the fastburns) and probably just 1.5 roller rockers. The 1.6 roller rockers raise the lift a bit too high. With 1.5 the lift numbers at 0.050 are :
i .539
e .558
I estimate atleast 425 HP and around 400 lb.ft based on Scoggin's numbers. Does that seem correct?
I hope I can get that thing to idle for the street
...or you can pick up a nice LT1 block for cheap and put in a fully balanced eagle forged rotating assembly and build yourself a wicked 383 with LT4 heads/intake and probably be well over 500 hp
im building a high hp 396. im estimating aroung 7k for my project.
im my 81 vette i bought a zz385 last year. i changed the cam to a tpis zz409 with 1.6 roller rockers and changed the head gaskets to .029 thick. 10.3/ cr. also put on a rpm air gap intake.. made about 445 fwhp.
and cost me about $5500..

i'de pass since there is alot of stuff that you will not use plus you can proabbly get a comparable 350 for less. Also that cam will fail emissions and will have a noticeable idle.
I am not buying the ZZ465. I already have the heads and intake and everything else. Just need short block now! The LT1 conversion means new computer, harness and tuning software - too expensive. LS6 - same prob plus engine mount issues as well. 425 HP is good enough for me. 383 too expensive.
Yeah, might have a problem passing emissions with that cam, so I will have to buy a cheap stock replacement for emissions testing.
I have a 90. The 1992B4C refers to the '92 camaro police package car that I had before it was totalled out in a trailering accident. I do not know if a 400 is right for me. The car is going to be used for open track days at variuos tracks, open road racing, and I am thinking about the Vette-Viper Challange.
Anyone konw what problems I am going to have with vacuum?
Will a cam with that much duration require a vacuum pump or larger resivoir?
you may have to raise your idle a little but vacuum should be fine. i have a zzx cam in my 350. 241/241 @ .050 and i pull 12 in of vacuum at 1000 rpms..
A 400 would be dirt cheap to build being as its not a high rpm motor. Get a 2 bolt main, stud it, 5,7 rods w/ARP bolts and a good balance job. With a small HR or flat tappet, some good heads you can easily make 500+lbs of torque in a usable range. Just make sure your heads are properly drilled and you shouldn't have any heating issues. Looking to do this myself. Vacuum or emissions should be no problem, either.
One of our favorites for cars with ported heads and headers. Will require computer tuning
with this combo it made 402.4hp and 408.5 tq at the rear wheels
