Default GM's 383 stroker rods

GM made a custom stroker rod for their 383 crate engines.

Which use a standard bore but a 3.80 stroke, rather than a .030 overbore and a 3.75 stroke. Looks like they went after the 383 name.

So anyone using the GM stroker rods? Seems a nice way to get a 3.80 stroke w/o having to go to a reduced base circle camshaft.

I think this may be interesting information to Corvette Kid because he has a 3.8 crank and is building a motor with it.

So what is the center to center on those rods? A 3.75" or even a 3.80" stroke doesn't need a reduced base circle camshaft in any case.

RACE ON!!!

5.7in

So your saying you can use stock rods, a stock base circle camshaft with a 3.8in stroke?

It is a decent rod for most street applications. Notice in the picture the top of the rod bolt and the rod has a chamfer, this is where the additional clearance for the cam is made. Normally when using a conventional GM style rod with bolts and nuts you have to grind this area for cam clearance.

When using stroker profiled rods such as the Lunati pro-mod, Lunati Billets, Oliver and other similar designs. There is no need to use a reduced base circle cam with a 3.75" stroke. Now if you go with a 3.875 stroke crank a small base circle cam maybe needed even with stroker profiled rods.

check out superenginebuilders.com They clearance Eagle rods for up to a 600 lift cam, standard base. I used these rods with an eagle crank and KB pistons and built big hp. Still have to clearance cylinder bottoms, but it is a very good setup and the whole balanced rotating assembly was around $900
