well you have AL heads anyway. but other then that looks pretty standard huh? i thought the AL heads were suppose to give more horse power over say my 86's iron heads?? less weight??
From what I've always hear 87 and up got roller rockers, lifters and cam. Maybe only the later 87's did. That would mean a roller block also. I guess not. Interesting.
Yes those are guide plates but look closely under the rocker tips and you should find little ridges that align the rocker over the valve stem.
So your factory rockers are self aligning and those guide plates were used only during assembly to roughly align the push rods so they do not touch the push rods during normal engine operation. Thus neither those guide plates nor the push rods are hardened.
What I just described was the stock setup on my '88 #113 heads.
My 87 did not come with self aligning rockers, just the same old ones like they had in the 50s. Roller cam, alluminum heads, guide plates, and plain rockers. I got the car at 35k and it was pretty much untouched.

All 87+ C4s came with roller lifters, not rockers. The standard stamped rocker in those pictures are correct. The guide plates are not "real", they are used to hold the pushrods in place during assembly. The rockers themselves are self aligning. If you upgrade to a set of non self-aligning roller rockers then you will need to purchase hardened pushrods and guideplates.
p.s.
I love seeing how well maintained our old engines are when the valve covers come off.
