Default factory alarm help

okay, so ive had the car since dec 04. now, theres some sort of factory alarm system. at least i think its factory. anyhow, when you open the door without unlocking it from the outside with the key, the horns start blowing. fortunately they arent on a constant blare, they go honk, honk, hon....well, you get the picture. my question is, is there a way to shut it off other than popping the hood and unplugging the horns??? the alarm doesnt have any effect on the car as far as starting and driving away. neither do the people that just watched me disable the alarm, hop in, start up and drive away without asking any questions.....

How else are you unlocking it from outside if you're not using the key?

If it's with a keyless, then it's obviously aftermarket, and not wired right.

If it's by reaching in and hitting the door buttons, then the alarm is supposed to trip when you open the door. Except for in 84, the inside buttons don't disarm the system.

I like this feature, gives that extra bit of security when parked with the top down.

Use the key to unlock.
The power lock switch arms the alarm and the key in the door disarms it. If you use the key to lock the door the alarm will not get armed.

After you remove the key from the ignition and step out of the car watch the DIC security light flash.

Reach down and push the manual door lock lever and the light will still flashed the same.

Reach down and hit the power lock button and the light will go to a steady "ARMED" status.

If you close the door with the steady status as "ARMED" you or anyone else who simply reaches in to unlock the door will trip the alarm. If the "ARMED" is not shown you can reach in and manually unlock the door without setting off the alarm.

Alternately you can use a power lock button to lock booth doors, manually unlock the driver's door with the key and then reach in and push the manual lock lever to lock the doors without the alarm being "armed".
